Context: New housing plan, about 60 houses were being built.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Did stop at the office trailer, Requested the foreman. Few minutes goes by. We said our greetings and bluntly told him before I rotate anything, If the box is overfilled, Shaking the over flow to the ground. He got onto the radio to his guys working that property. Said all good to go, 15 minute rotate. That's when he stopped me and gave an envelope with the cash. I quit that job shortly afterwards.

Funny thing is Never requested any money, Just a good guy helping someone. Never again. Crap like that will always bite you in the butt.

I agree with Shaggy and Don. Some customers I will step out of my way to get their freight on/off my trailer. Some guys I help cause they are cool as hell and good friends with... others I do it cause they went out of their way one day to help me out when I was in a tight spot (i.e. loading me on the side of the road cause I could not back my trailer up a 8% grade that was covered in ice or snow... or loading me first cause they knew I was on a time crunch).

They post a listing of our customers based on importance (those we should be extra nice too cause they pump a bunch of money into our company), but the reality to the ground grunts is how we are able to interact with the shippers/receivers. Some of those guys are just pure garbage. They hold a position merely cause their family member owns the company. Others are just filled with paycheck collecting dimwits who's company can't find anyone else to work for them.

And yeah Don, nobody works for free. I agree with that. I do not get paid by the stop or load. It is nice to be paid by the hour. Problem is once you are nice to a customer, they expect it each and every time afterwards. Usually it starts out with something simple like a quick courtesy phone call to see if anyone is there to load up/receive a load. Then it spirals into "Well by God, why didn't you call ahead of time to let us know you were coming".

I am not your employee. I've actually had a flooring company ask me to help THEIR customer load up tiles into their personal pickup truck. I am a P&D driver. I deliver your freight, and I pick it up when it is ready. Anything in between is because I either like you or you helped me out in the past.

Shaggy and Big Don Thank this.

    totally agree.
I deliver food to chain restaurants. Some of the chains I wheel it in on 2 wheelers and am paid .28c a case to do it. Others I just bring it on the pallet to their door. Technically the contract says my truck tailgate, but I"m a nice guy and it makes them go faster. (although TFB when it's all snowy and icy). And I get paid .17c a case to do that. I.e. I"m not getting paid to put it on the two wheelers. I just have to wait until they are done. If they are busting ### and getting it done, I"ll help out. If they are moving like molasses and not getting much done, I don't lift a finger. two way street.

I had one 18/20 year kid at a restaurant start barking at me "#### truck drivers always late, always be a truck driver".

Dropped the case, went and sat in the truck and read a magazine. I made $75 for that kid to unload my 300+ cases. I'm sure he made like $15 and did all the work. #### truck drivers always be a truck driver.

One thing nice about doing LTL. If you are late, Something went really really really wrong and ( my ) company will back me up and pull someone working the terminal/nearby driver to go help out on the route.

Hear from the customers daily that Multiple TL's is late. One of the forklift guys had a funny moment, which is rare for him.

My LTL rant is about being tired.. This is my first winter as an LTL Linehaul driver and it getting dark so early and the on/off rain, snow, and fog has been super annoying and tiring. The humidity is super annoying as well.. Turn the heat on in the rig then I get hot.. open the wing window.. it doesn't stay open.. roll window down(manually mind you) get too cold or my knee gets wet.. :p
