I have nightmares of the sound of dock plates being brought down on my trl. Over and over and over again....
But in all reality. I'm glad I finally switched to ltl. Love it. My other job was just too boring. Here I actually feel like I accomplish something every day.misterG, MACK E-6, road_runner and 2 others Thank this. -
road_runner, Mike2633, Buckeye91 and 1 other person Thank this.

On a different note, I'm sometimes amazed at the amount of "stupid" that can accumulate under one roof.
Why would someone make an appointment for 7:30-10:00 AM at a place 2 1/2 hours from the yard???
It must have been the same idiot that tried to get me to take two skid loader buckets back to the place I picked them up from when they should have delivered in TN yesterday.FreightlinerGuy and Mike2633 Thank this. -
Speaking of dock plates, we had a satellite dock that had a portable dock plate. Had to set it and pull it with the fork lift. It had el brackets welded to it to keep it in place between trailer and dock. So one day this "driver" loads his truck, jumps off the fork lift, jumps off the dock, fires up his truck and pulls out.
Dropped the plate off the dock, he obviously didn't take time to pull it, he also left his roll up door open, left the fork lift running, outside, on the unsecured dock and took off to make his delivery. The guy working on the adjoining dock, for a different company, heard the commotion and realized what happened.
Being both a darn good guy, and a friend of the dock manager, he used our fork lift to retrieve our dock plate, put it inside, put the fork lift inside,(shutting it down,) and closed and locked our dock door.
Of course he told the dock manager what had happened, when he saw him the next morning. This dock manager was a pretty cool dude. He didn't say anything to the driver, hoping the guy would "fess up."
(Oh I forgot to add that one of the safety brackets got busted when the dock plate hit the ground.)
Anyway after a couple of days the manager confronted the driver, who denied it happened. After a brief conversation, the driver finally admitted it, and said, "But I was in a hurry..."
You see all kinds in this business. SmhMike2633 Thanks this. -
You rip a door off a trailer your getting charged with a full fledged accident. You know why you would rip a door off a trailer? Because your in a hurry that's usually from what I've seen from stories I've heard the big common denominator guys were in a big hurry pulling out of some goofy dock and the trailer doors got stuck on a post or what ever and the door gets yanked right off.
Any time I'm with a new guy (listen to me I talk like I'm some kind of Assistant Trans Manager LOL!) I always tell the new guys just watch out for those trailer doors there break away don't pull one off the trailer on your watch. -
Oh hey one more thing, you guys go a lot of places I don't, I had a random thought do you guys in your travels see any MS Carriers trailers still out and around? I haven't seen one in the longest time and I was just wondering if Swift finally got rid of all of them.

Never thought I would see the day where someone has nightmares about dock plates hitting his trailer. To me that is the best case scenario when running freight. Congrats on landing local city peddler work... But write us when you get nightmares from the high pitch whining sound from your lift gate hydraulics.

Our drop lot is the extra parking in the rear of a truck stop. Some dude set up a tent right where one carrier drops their con gears. Could you imagine someone flying in at night trying to find a place to crash and then running over that tent? Who sets up a tent inside a truck stop anyway?
Pintlehook, Bob Dobalina, misterG and 3 others Thank this.
