    It's a pretty good structure.

    I get paid per mile
    PLUS
if a run is under 100 miles (one way), i get a sliding scale bonus. Varies from $17 to $4

Basically it works out to just about anything is at least $25. 9 miles, $25. 20 miles, $25. It's not an exact number, but that's how it works out in practice. 40 miles is about $30 and 50 miles is about $35. So you are basically getting paid to build the set. (I actually heard from the original driver when this didn't exist and he did a 9 mile run and made $4.50 and said "nope, not doing this, fix it")

So, if you are hustling it can pay very well. The slowest short run is hub to hub (cuz there's too much gate guards and such) and it takes 2 hours (20 miles each way), but that's still $50.

The quicker ones are shorter, about 10-15 miles, but only a hub on one end, 1.25 hours to 1.5 hours. Still two sets, but $50 in 1.25 hours is nothing to sneeze at.

It's EASIER to just do longer runs, but ti pays just as well or better to hustle and do the short runs. (although I've got a big "house" of a tractor well most of the local guys are in single axle day cabs. Still, after food service, it's EASY work.

weeks full of local crap (like the last few weeks) my per mile average has been 80 cents or more. (cuz of the bonus), This week was like zero long runs and I bet I made close to $1/mile. (that's like 40 plus sets in there though, I EARNED it)

But it's fair, it works out. Cuz some guys get sent on these short runs (other contractors) and make $10. yeah, not doing it, rather go take a nap.

    Dispatch has figured out that
    a. I'm a really impatient person.
    b. if you keep me moving i can move an enormous amount of freight
    c. I'm not a millennial, I'm here to work (no offense to Mike2363)
    d. I'm not buried in debt, so if you don't keep me moving, I'm going home to sleep.
    e. I'm not up in the middle of the night to not make money

So, they keep me in lots of stuff. I've been waiting in line and they will call me out of turn to hand me a hook slip because I pound them out (and i'm getting paid well to do it). Lately on good nights when dispatch isn't fouling up I've been averaging $300 in 10 hours plus or minus. That's pretty solid. (heck that's food style money in less time and less work). Now it's good weather, dry, not too hot, not too cold, now is the time to bust tail and make money.

so also doesn't matter if it's a single 28, a 53 or a set of 28's. Pays the same. So the best is a single loaded over and a single back.

Actually some really well paying things are take a set, drop the tail here (15 miles away), then drop the lead here (another 50 miles) then bring set of empties back. (50 miles). That's 95 bucks. Takes 2.5 hours. (that's my favorite mix, doesn't happen often), takes 2 minutes to drop a tail. and ti's basically on the way.

Bobtail over here and grab a single 28 to bring back? pays the same. (my 2nd favorite, so easy)

And these are nice new tractors. (ok they are freightliners, but you can't have everything), Sirius radio, assigned trucks, etc.

I'm pretty happy, which is pretty darn unusual for me. :)

so, as mentioned earlier, they are cutting us to 65mph, company wide. So, we're going to be just like all the other LTL's poking along in the slow lane. So, if we're going to be like LTL's, then it should pay like LTL's, cuz the miles won't be there in the same amount of time.

If you don't mind, could you list what LInehaul guys are making at your company? (cpm or hourly, however it works). I realize it's not an exact comparison because job markets, etc. but it should help me put a proposal together.

    thanks

tell me when you lose count

and when do take a couple hours to count them all, every time you do you get a different answer. (what about the one in the bathroom? oh yeah, and the one in that drawer? oh yeah)

So I am not the only gun nut here. I have mostly Glocks,AR15s,and AKs(7.62 and 5.45). I just recently finished putting together a SOCOM type M4 clone. Has the SOCOM profile 14.5" heavy barrel, Surefire M952 weapon light, and the optic is a Trijicon battery powered ACOG in a Larue mount. The thing is sick- I hit torso sized steel out to 550 yards and I can hit the big ### gong at 840 yards.
