Yea there is a lot of drama and BS. They don't like to hire or buy equipment and complain if it's not done fast enough. Also these two hour delay on Fridays kill you weekend. They would work us till our 14 to begin with and now with the two hour delay on Fridays it's become even worse. Also our city guys never want to work the dock and the road drivers get stuck with it when it is considered city drivers work. Only about 4 will do it. 2 guys in the morning and 2 at night.
It's still not a terrible job but the BS a just too much for me. The only thing I was stressed at YRC is whether I would still have a job the next day.
At least Shaggy there two of us saying the same thing about the company so it doesn't seem like it's just one person. Guess it's time to get into shape for city work again. And dig out the old GPS

And I thought Con-way was the only one who did the 2 hr back offs on Friday. And it is a weekend killer for sure. Nothing like getting home at noon on a Saturday and just crashing out. Then your significant other gets mad, when you say you are too tired to go out or do anything. Even getting laid was out of the question sometime.
Education is the key. Screw all these LTL companies and their plantation mentality. -
Good luck ACH, let us know how that new carrier works out for you. UPSF is really strict up here. They wired their trucks with seatbelt sensors (more of a pain inside the yard when you are hooking/unhooking) and all kinds of other monitors. I would also leave the industry, but my carrier pays the most in my entire area. You have to have a degree for anything else that pays as much as what I make. I wish you the best of luck. Yes Cenutry all he higher ups are trying to make it into CWF. All the senoir guys are fed up with the changes. As for the weekend killer your right, they don't care about that as long as it's cleaned for Monday. And the dock guys don't start any Later so all the extra work is put among us drivers.
RR your not kidding about the seatbelt. I've been written up for that for not having a seatbelt on while building/breaking a set. I was like are you kidding me?
As for LTL I'm only in it because the new carrier offers a pension. The whole industry I've seen go down hill and I've been around only 3 years.... I would to to school but would still be doing blue collar work anyways as they are the only ones who offer pensions around here -
Wow, ok I'm liking ABF more and more. I could never get hired at upsf or fedex anyway because my appearance is too controversial. At ABF I can be me as long as I get my work done. We are also on the 60hr/7day clock so they can only work us 60 hours a week. The hardest part of the work for me is the dock just because they can't spare someone to just train me. So I have to bug the guys already loading stuff for things to do. I'm picking it up but I'm slow and I feel bad when the road drivers come in and their trailer isn't loaded. I They generally kick me off my forktruck and load themselves as they can do it faster and I become the gofer. I still see myself retiring from this job as I wont get to be home every day and have every weekend off anywhere else for this pay...checker/drivers in this area get paid more than most people with jobs requiring 4 year degrees.

And that is a misconception about the pay. Sure if you have an english or psychology degree, you cant command high wages. But if you have a STEM degree(Science,Tech,Math, Engineering), you will make good money. Work your 40, get full benefits and don't have to beat your body up..60/70 hr weeks are for the birds. I used to be greedy and worked every minute I could. Then I realized I was too tired to enjoy it and it wasnt worth it at all. But I am happy you are liking ABF. I never did consider or was interested in working for them. -
Very early to tell obviously, but I'm already liking ABF better than OD, at least around here anyway. Bye bye uniform! And OT after 8 is the way it should be IMO.

ABF and YRC are very similar as hey are both under the NMFA. The new carrier I'll be working for operates like it but don't pay as much as either one. But generally these smaller carriers are more relaxed though. Still get OT after 8/40 which is awesome. The TM said expect anywhere from 45-55 hour weeks which isn't too bad. And I can run line on weekends.
As for making more money I agree. My cousin makes quite a bit less then me and he's got a 4 year degree. In the long run he will make more but in 30 years I can retire with full benefits where as he won't be able too so you gotta take the good with the bad.
Our city guys never want to work the dock and it's considered city guy work at all end of line terminals. They keep begging the road drivers to come in, amd the few city guys who do,work the dock have no clue how to load a trailer.
Yes UPSF is very strict with appearance. If I have the slightest facial hair because I've just been too exhausted to shave after showering I get my chops busted. Also the favoritism here is ridiculous. Everyone is under the 8 days 70 hour rule as we have road operations out of our terminal. -
