So, I just completed my second "produce load." Flowers, +36 continuous. It was actually a very trouble free load, loading was about 4 hours, check-in to drive away, not bad, in my book. "I hear it pays well," LOL!

Anyhow, I'm loving pulling reefers. (And, also, REALLY liking here at this company. A LOT.)

I adapted to the sleep thing quickly. I am now sleeping mostly naps, rather than long stretches, but research has shown that's actually how humans slept, until the advent of agriculture, so we have actually slept a few hours here, a few hours there, for a lot more of our history as modern humans, rather than long stretches of sleep.

The old saw "you need 8 hours of sleep" is, well, it's both correct and also incorrect. Maybe we do need that much sleep, but we actually do better if we break that sleep into smaller chunks.

Anyhow... I read a post a while back, here on TR, where someone said they actually sleep better with the reefer on continuous, rather than start stop. I don't, but in almost 3 months pulling reefers, I've only had 2 or 3 continuous loads, so...

I love myself a -20 continuous ice cream load in the summer. Sleep like a baby.

At first I’d wake up every time that reefer turned on/off.. same with the opti-idle that starts and stops the truck.

Now, a bit over a year into it I forget I have a reefer..

I've had a few -10 loads, but they have all been start-stop. I was really worried about it when I was considering reefers, but yeah, after only 3 months I'm... almost... acclimated to it. Pretty close.

My tractor got an overhead today, and also a balance job. I'm looking forward to experiencing the improvement.

I don't think I ever had a problem with reefer unit waking me regardless of if it was on cycle or continuous. Of course, I've also never had any problems sleeping well in a truck to begin with. I thought in the beginning it would take some getting used to. But, I was surprised from the get go that I sleep like a rock and get restful sleep in a truck, as long as I am parked somewhere I feel is safe. I parked one night on the side of an entrance ramp, like you see so many other trucks doing. But, I was the only one there and just didn't feel safe and didn't sleep well because of that. But, at truck stops, rest areas and terminals, not a problem.
I have changed reefer from cycle to continuous when I stopped for the night a couple times in the beginning, thinking that I would sleep better. And then just reset it to cycle during my pretrip the next morning. But, after awhile, I quit bothering.

I dont ever run my reefer on cycles... If the reefer needs to be on then it is on continuous. 2 reasons... 1) once its running it will stay running unless the alternator dies or it runs out of fuel... Dont have to worry about a battery dying or fuel gelling (generally). 2) the starting and stopping of the reefer unit wakes me up when I'm sleeping... If it shuts off, then somethings wrong and it wakes me up.
