I have a friend who was asked to haul an old used trailer with 20K lbs from the SF Bay area to Astoria Oregon and then bobtail back to the SF Bay area. It's for a private citizen and not a company.
He's a local OO with his own authority etc.
He was asking me if 6500 $ is an acceptable quote. He also has to get trip permits because he's only plated for California as an intrastate carrier.
How much would you guys quote?
It's about a 1600 MI round trip.
Thank you!
Rate information for a round trip empty trailer and bobtail back.

Yes. I asked him just now.MadScientist Thanks this. -
I’m sure they could find someone for much cheaper. I’d be more worried about how road worthy this old trailer is. But you would know more then i of course.
So, if $6500 was already agreeable to the owner of the trailer then go for it. If the trailer is in bad shape though I’d have a written agreement that the owner pays repair costs and the trucker is not liable.Siinman, Rideandrepair, BennysPennys and 3 others Thank this. -
It's definitely road worthy. He had chp look at it today.
He was just asking me how much he thinks he should quote the guy.BennysPennys and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
I couldn’t see the guy going for anymore then $4500 tops. A broker could technically find a power only needing to go north and move it for half that. I guess it all depends on how patient the guy is, how much money he has, and if he knows how to find any other options besides your buddy.Edjahman Thanks this.

$4800 would be $3/mile all miles - I'd imagine a fella would be happy with that for a little over 2 days and bobtail half the miles.
Opus, Siinman, ProfessionalNoticer and 2 others Thank this. -
