There's always mega carrier who will send in his driver running for~32-35cpm to pick up that load you just refused.

I've got to say some of you guys are really scaring me I work local dump trucking all hourly. If you don't know how much it cost you per mile to run your truck with or without you in the seat please stay a driver stop buying more trucks try that one I see it in my business all the time all these guys who are ready to work 24/7 4 1997 rates but they all have a new truck payment then they just keep buying more trucks because the profit margins keep getting smaller per truck and they don't understand why the rates are so low well wake up and smell the gear oil this is America all you ash holes who have accepted owner operator rates at cheaper than you can do them for are absolute idiots Park your trucks don't buy more...dropping mic

Please keep using the same old tired excuse that" I have to work somewhere" and keep on driving our business into the ground.If you have no skills or are illegal please go sell oranges by the freeway . I think a lot of these fake carriers are happy to lose money on the trucking end of their business so they can launder their money through it. when I see a 1700 Mile load for a dry van that pays $1400 Im dying to know what type of carrier can legally haul that for that kind of money

I'm sure it happens. I'd say trucking and dealing drugs would be a pretty good fit. You'd have the means to transport your product across the country and you could launder your money through the trucking company.Camelclutch Thanks this.

I don't see the load boards these days but I use to see 50 cent mile loads all the time.

For backhauls I use Loadboard (by Trucker's Path) and 123Loadboard as my primary apps. Loadboard recently implemented an option for the broker to post the rate. Sometimes you have to just shake your head at the rates, other times the loads paying over $2 per mile are snapped up before you can get call the broker.
I always think the brokers posting the ultra low rates should be ashamed of them. I do make note of who those brokers are and avoid them.
On the other hand, once you have established a relationship with a broker I've noticed they start giving you better rates before you start negotiating. Once you've given really good service to their shippers and receivers a few times you can forget about cheap rates. Maybe you have to suck it up a few times to cover fuel getting back to your bread and butter shipping area, but pretty soon you start getting backhaul rates that start making sense.Camelclutch Thanks this. -
I couldn't agree more. Some guys just don't have the option though. I have no truck payments, just $700 for insurance and $150 for parking. My mortgage and all my other bills come out to less than $2000. I can afford to cherry pick and book only high paying loads. I can survive off one decent trip per week but I normally do 3-4.
But if you add a $1200 weekly lease payment to that, you have no choice but to run whatever loads you can find. The megas who lease truck to drivers will give them just enough to barely stay afloat and run all the cheap rates.Lepton1 and Camelclutch Thank this. -
Yeah everybody has a different situation but you gotta know your cents per mile cost at least down to a minimum so you're not paying to take someone's load
