mmmmm...., that would be company dictating rules in conflict with regs to me.

stop in a chicken house and ask.

I've done that many times over the yrs ,when in doubt.

But once he goes to move from the dock he technically needs to go on duty, even for the 5 minutes it takes tovoull out, close the doors and back into a spot. A driver needs 10 CONTINUOUS hours off duty.

no law saying you must start your clock after 10 hours of off duty, Just because you started your 10, all this will do is save your hours, you should log at least 10 minutes at a shipper/receiver, but get the sleep you need to be safe out here

Your company has to supply you with a letter relieving you of duty in order to log off duty .. I got inspected years back in bc and was going to get fined but another inspector saw the letter in my binder and then I was good .. I didn't have a clue I needed that letter maybe it's just a Canadian thing

the company CAN supply you with a letter. but i've never been asked for it. and i dont' think anyone else has either. and i've only had ONE company give me one.

but NOW, the gooberment MAKES you go off duty. and THEY don't give you a letter.

The first time you're detained 6-7 hours it will become clearer.

I'm with China on this one - I'd stretch the legal envelope, maximise the drive time, and sleep when tired - I didn't need to be told when to go to bed.

From the time i opened the drivers door, it was safety, work, sleep - in whatever order needed. No drinking even on 34's, and loads and miles were priority.

THAT is my main worry. If I get into an issue and DOT sees I logged 2 hours at a receiver as part of my 10 hour break is it legal? They even ask me to line 5 to a truckstop after the unload to stay off duty. Truckstop may be 20 miles away.

I also don't need the super truckers telling me how much sleep I need, thank you. No I don't sleep much during unloads because I'm dealing with clerks, moving trailers, filling out paperwork, trip planning for my next load, getting bills from other loads in trippaks, on the phone with dispatch or any number of things. I just think it's crap to count this as part of a 10 and need to know if it's legal, not opopinions. I thought to ask at scale but figured that would spark some further digging by the officer and may also get company in crap as they will figure they're doing this with other drivers.
