That was the same time, they did away with the 8 hour when they redid HOS. That’s when the 34 restart and not being able to stop your clock happened.

70,s when things were simple and the interstate roads were still being built, mostly 2 lane roads, no center dividers and those head-on were bad. And that fast pump was not in use yet and union 76 was the major truck stops back then.

TA bought out Burns Brothers, Rip (off) Griffin and Union 76 truck stop operations,Travel Ports and a slew of independents all across the country. I don't know if any of you have ever been in a Quaker steak and lube but TA owns them now. I did not include Petro because most drivers already know this. A friend of mine that works in their headquarters told me last year they were going to be spending major bucks buying some properties and remodeling existing ones in the upcoming years.

Yes, ALL of your driving, Onduty hours go onto your last 8 day recap. I generally go back 12 days myself.

There is a certain number of hours in total you can work every 24 hour days mid night to mid night and never run out of hours. However you can hardly get anything done for the week and you will find very low or no wages for that time period.

I like to keep recaps. We never had 34 hours to sit and do nothing or rent a car and run around playing tourists if we did have that 34 in our time. When the recaps says that we are 70 hours burned up and it will be two days before we got it back midnight on the third day we would run out and rent a car (Unless it was enterprise, they bring one to us) do the paperwork and leave that truck parked legally running around like tourists.

Once in a while we don't get to rent a car. Polk City Fla off I-4 has a Fantasy of Flight Museum back in the mid 90's they were gracious enough to allow me to park my midroof Volvo conventional with a full 48 foot covered wagon (Empty of course) on the grass just inside their gate.. they had something like a thousand acres so a half acre of grass inside their gate was not a imposition or in anyone's way at all. We spent two days there once, visiting everything they had on exhibit inside there. They had a complete B-17 that was a complete joy to examine on the inside and outside. (It's pretty cramped in spots for a little one like myself... so you gained a appreciation for what those that flew and fought in them things during ww2 went through)

Better yet they had at the time state of the art custom simulation of flight complete with a number of custom built ####pits that when enclosed about you became the plane you wore during the combat situation they put you in. I usually flew the P38 which was a good plane match for me I don't remember how many hours I spent in one of those or how much money overall I spent both days flying those things. But I do remember being specifically invited to take my P38 and take on a staffer/owner who is a actual real life pilot in his Zero towards the end of Day one as a invitational privilege. We had two fights together, One was aggressor and after the first one the second fight followed with the other person being the aggressor.

I can tell you that the first one had me as a aggressor in my P38 lightning dual engine plane with super chargers on each engine versus the Owner/staffer with his Mitsubishi Zero which itself was a world class fighter. WHAT a plane that was even in the mid 90's computer simulation technology combined with the switchology available to both of us in each of our physically enclosed ####pits.

He had as prey several choices and paths to take. There were 4 possible paths for him. Three of which would be totally lethal to him due to my plane's strengths and weight plus firepower. To my dismay he took instantly door number 4 which is straight upwards in a best rate of climb situation into the sun no less. That thing soared faster than any angel. Me in my pig of a 26000 pound fighter starved the superchargers and I applied war emergency power which is essentially water to the engines which would over boost them for a while. And I did that. Managed to close the distance enough to actually open fire to try for a kill. Most of my rounds hit. However I displayed my ignorance about how to kill a Zero because it had a armored tail. What you needed to do is induce a little cross control input and side slip a little bit and put the rounds into his wing root where the fuel was and no armor it should blow him up in a fireball.

The simulation master ended the fight at that point and reset to make him the aggressor. Which was not good for me. I cannot out climb, there isnt enough altitude before hard deck (The ocean itself) and I cannot try to out turn him with that fat pig of a P38.

So what I did was flop her over onto it's back, slowed to 160, deployed full flaps and horsed her around allowing the thing to drop and turn even tighter with the flaps out. Then added war emergency to try and bring my 20mm weapons to bear on him before he has a chance to pepper me to death with his. I planned to slash through and head into the sun to try again if it did not make this kill. I had a pretty good idea what he was going to try and do if he was not going to be able to kill me on this pass. None of the options was any good for me for reasons stated above except one. The super chargers combined with what was left of the water for the engine's war power boost combined with my huge flaps made for a monster that could at certain altitudes make a fat turkey of his precious zero.

It is unfortunate to this day more than 20 years past, that particular fight for whatever reason was not allowed to proceed. Time was not the problem and I suspect it was a computer issue which was relatively common, more so when both of us were doing things to our planes to where it's possible that the computers may not have had the necessary resources in hardware to keep up with us.

Im pretty sure the owner and staffers are still with us. It's no longer a formal museum but rather a place where they restore old time warbirds and preserve history which is a very very good and admirable mission in life. The next time I am in Polk City I would hope to meet up and let see about giving that another go. Especially now in light of the advanced computer power and so on that is probably availible to us now compared to back then. We both have some unfinished business. It's nothing bad. Just something that is not resolved.

    So much fun.

I think you did your math wrong, that should be 94 or 110 depending on when you take the 34.
