Picked up a store fixture load in Omaha once going to a new Petco store near the Astoria bridge in nyc .
Got into the city in the wee hours and found out I couldnt get within 2 blocks of the place because it's surrounded by low bridges.
Camped under the Astoria until daylight and called HQ in Omaha and got usaul dumbfounded response, meanwhile the cops told me I had to move so I headed for my favorite motel over in little ferry nj and sat there on clock for 2 days enjoying cold beer and great pizza .
On day 3 they had me take it to a volpe terminal in Jersey and when I arrived I discovered it was just a drop yard with no equipment to unload with so back to motel .
Day 4 get call saying they can't find anyone who wants to deal with it so bring it back to Omaha so I did and the trailer sat there 2 weeks until I picked it up again and brought it back to jersy to a trucking co that put it on a flatbed.Swedish Chef, NavigatorWife, Landincoldfire and 9 others Thank this. -

Yesterday morning I was unloaded in McAllen. After they unload me they handed me unsigned bills.
I said I need an autograph, they said they had only called for a quote and the shipper sent the material.
Yes, the next question was why did you unload me then. I was really hoping for a return trip back to the shipper but after a couple hours they signed the bills.
I think it was a negotiation tactic by the receiver.NavigatorWife, Big Don, bzinger and 3 others Thank this. -

When I was relatively new to otr I had a load of flat screen tvs going to a place in Quebec. I arrive for delivery on Friday morning. My delivery instructions were "must deliver friday" (no appt time). Before I left I told dispatch I am not staying all weekend in Quebec. They had a reload booked so all is good. Because I don't speak French, the dude refused to unload me. I had him sign on the bills with new seal number and everything "refused- no appointment time" after I had waited there all day. I was paid to return the load to the yard (700 miles) and the trip was all for nothing. I later found out there was a sale happening at a large department store there for flat screen tvs that weekend, and they didn't have the product. I refused when asked to make another delivery attempt for that load.

Pneumatic tank load refused for not having seals. They never requested them, so shipper didn't supply any. Shipper told them "no returns", and they refused KNOWING they'd be charged for the product whether they took it or not. Got paid to haul it out there. Got paid to haul it back (as opposed to the empty trip back). Got new paperwork (no unload or reload). Got paid a 3rd time to haul it to another customer.
I don't care what you want to do with it, as long as I get paid. If you want to pay me to drive in circles, as long as I'm getting paid, so be it.Terry270, Konsaki, MachoCyclone and 17 others Thank this. -
Tankers get 1/2 the rate to return. Used to bring denatured alcohol [SDA4B-190proof] to Phillip Morris. Every outlet had to be sealed and every seal number had to be on the shipping papers.
They would re-load on top and only needed to replace a few of the seals and copy over the rest of the numbers. one of every three loads seemed to have a missed seal, we got paid to deliver, and 1/2 rate to bring it back and another delivery with new papers....
In case you are having a hard time quitting cigarettes, That mixture was Ethyl alcohol, nicotine [a poison] and methylene blue dye [a possible carcinogen]. It was sprayed onto the tobacco where the alcohol helped the nicotine seep into the leaf and the blue dye showed where it was sprayed until the alcohol evaporated...that's why your Marlboro always tastes the same...the amount of nicotine is controlled.
Go a head, light up another one....tlalokay, NavigatorWife, Viceroy1 and 6 others Thank this. -
NavigatorWife Thanks this.
