I had superb experiences with Extended Stay America through my previous employment. Definitely check into it. Don't pay for the 'higher speed wifi' as it's no better than the free wifi already throughout the building - don't know what they were thinking LOL!!!!

That's the branch I am staying with. Extended Stay near Fort Jackson outside of Columbia . I am off Interstate 77. Crime rate is atrocious. Can't even walk my dog outside off leash since there are so many syringes liying around the field outside.
It is badspeedyk and Warrior Cat Thank this. -
I'm a 'union person' and most of us that participate in the political process are actually quite conservative. While our union supported Clinton/Obama in the last two elections, it's safe to say the vast majority of the Rank and File supported Trump/Paul.
Much of the U.S. is 'Right to Work', meaning one can work in a union shop and not pay the union assessments (dues). My final employer was set up that way and a number of my co-workers were 'non union'. I do know they weren't covered under our gold plated union healthcare and retirement plans - they were covered under whatever management received. Since their pay was reportedly the same as ours, they tended to be 'shop personnel' vs. 'field personnel' (my end).
The shop people didn't take the pay beating we did and received regular raises with every contract while the last raise for us was in the contract that took effect right after I started nearly two decades ago - nothing since. Management made it clear they want to replace us with contractors, despite the high turnover of field employees and contractors for many years now.

My position is should one work in a union shop and benefit from the terms of the contract the union negotiated then one should pay for those services and benefits. My final union 'assessment' (dues) was only $58 per month, less than 3 hours pay.Ruthless, road_runner and already gone Thank this. -
You definitely picked the worst area to stay in. I live in the region so I'm somewhat familiar with it. The ESAs on Harbinson Blvd in Irmo or on I-126 by the Riverbanks Zoo are clearly better neighborhoods, especially Irmo-Columbiana Mall area. Yeah, get away from the Ft. Jackson area.Last edited: Jun 14, 2018

Everything you wrote is very reasonable and I agree with it. Maybe that is how your area operates.. but maybe this is how most or all union shops operate and I am just misinformed by everyone else.
My major gripe is about people staging these massive walkouts, and in some cases the worplace has no other option than to shut down the entire hub or plant since they can't accommodate union demands .
But thanks for being so cordial and respectful and putting your piece of information out here. -
Yeah... Too little too late. I am on the verge of closing on my new house in Red Bank and won't be in this s-hole hotel.
Lemme know if you are in the area. I will buy you a beer or coffee or whatever you old people drink these daysWarrior Cat Thanks this. -
You're moving into a decent area IMO - you could have done worse. Lexington County Schools have a very good rep.
My daughter works at the SEFL (Southeastern Freightlines) corporate office right off of exit 63/I-20 - going west it's on the left side with antique trucks parked where they can be seen from the highway. They live in Aiken County right off of Exit 33/I-20 - I'm wanting to move down to be close to my kids and grand kids at some point, hopefully soon.
All of my inlaws, outlaws and exwife live in the area LOL!!! Everytime I see a flooring truck I'll be looking for ya! Bet you're the shady character with dark shades?!?! Truckers can be a spooky lot! I see the admins came in and cleaned up some of the mess I created today - I'll try to do better tomorrow! -
Maybe I should ask your daughter for a job.
I am getting raped on taxes in the county though. Double what I paid in MT. Comes with the turf and school I guess.
I can't complain about my new job as a temp though. 11 hour shifts four days a week.Warrior Cat Thanks this. -
My grand daughters go to school in Lexington County even though they live in Aiken County. They (parents) have to appear before the school board and reapply every year. We pay even more taxes up here just across the state line and schools are a mess - 'diversity and inclusion' isn't working out too well.
Hoping you'll get full time status ASAP. I've worked for a few temp services - next to last employment was through a temp service that rolled over into full time. Lasted nearly 4 years before I was fired and the cops were called LOL! Surprised their aren't multiple threads on driver temp/leasing services as they can be a complete hoot!
How long have you been connected to trucking employment wise? -
You sound like a child
