I’m a produce broker and freight broker - I have to sign Final Sale when I load flatbeds after Thanksgiving ( to FL) — driver confirm with broker/receiver — make them insist

I never saw this thread in the past, but the answer to this one goes all the way back to Ray Kroc. When he began the franchise model, he was upset that franchisees were taking liberties with the menu and/or sourcing product that didn't meet the same standard everywhere. He went out personally to find singular suppliers that could handle the volume on potatoes initially, and everything else from there. Russet Potatoes from Idaho were the initial selection, and I am sure whatever supplier for the eggs, juice, etc., were chosen in the same manner. This went as far as sourcing the same ice cream machines for each location that could handle the volume of any location during lunch rush. His reasoning was that he wanted everyone to get the same experience at every location, from décor to menu to flavor... and inversely anyone who traveled a lot (his background was in traveling sales) could enter any location and expect the same experience as their hometown location.

Thus the central commissary idea was born. I could go deep into the supply-side economics of the retail franchise model, but with my economics background, while I may find it intriguing, the average person would probably be bored to death.
