Produce gets a lot of rejects.
Walmart will reject whole pallets for no reason. Believe I brought load of zucchini from California to New Mexico and about 4 pallets were bad.darthanubis Thanks this. -
my house is only 10 min away from the parking yard, and my reefer unit has will be on till I deliver on next day. so I am thinking should i just better off sleep in the truck in case some people try to mess around with the unit temp or sleep at home lol.
-
I am new to reefer, and will start next week hauling produce. Tell me some good tip please. Those pallets were bad before loading? how you deal with this kind of situation and what's the result? Thank you
-
Was just saying *I* sleep better in the Truck then at home.
I really wouldn't worry too much about it.
Gonna be your own truck/trailer?
I've seen some guys have like a lock for the controls. -
yes sir, my own truck and trailer. i saw some pic online with lock too. I think TK and carrier should considered equip with control lock, just for peace of mind lol
-
That locking panel would be cheap insurance.
Never had mine messed with but I check it EVERY time I'm out of the truck.
Always check your product before its loaded. Look at it...would you buy it? No? Reject it. Check the temps! Too hot? Reject it! Hot product can turn to mush in a very short time. Outer product may chill but the inner will stay hot and rot.
I hate produce loads.darthanubis Thanks this. -
thanks for the advises. If I stay with the truck, i think it would be ok. Oftentime I have to leave the unit on at the yard and go home for the day like 10 hrs.
-
I ran into a guy recently who got his unit fixed at TK. Somebody put sugar in his tank.
Leaving the truck in the yard and sleep at home? Depends wether it's a secured yard or not and how many "friends" you have there.
If it was me, I'd be sleeping in the truck.
It's your truck, your trailer, and your signature on the bills.darthanubis Thanks this. -
The 4 pallets of zucchini were rejected because of brown spot that walmart receiver saw in a couple boxes. So then they reject the whole pallet instead of checking each box.
The shipper was affiliated with walmart so they load quickly and didn't inspect the load that good. They know the receivers on the other end will catch bad product.
I took the 4 pallets to landfill and paid like $30 to dump.(two temp agency guys met me at landfill and unloaded in 20 minutes and were paid for 4 hr minimum)
But produce is a pain because you got to get it delivered quickly and you need good equipment.Last edited: Apr 28, 2016
