Most O/O's I know will drop in SoFla, and deadhead up to central florida if they didn't find a backhaul out at a decent rate in the following 24/48 hours (that doesn't have 50 stops). Most runs out are "gas money gigs" as brokers/shippers know that people are desperate to just to gtfo of here. It's cheeper to deadhead out, than to idle for 3 days waiting for a load (or sweat to death).

I judge how reefer is running by how many trucks are sitting in the Pompano Farmers Market. Full lot = slow freight. It's pretty empty right now - melons are running, as are (were) flowers for mothers day out of MIA.

At least there's a truckstop now at 595/turnpike - so there's someplace with facilities to hang at. Otherwise, Fort Pierce is the nearest stopover.

I won't go into a freight lane dead zone without charging round trip rate. If it means hardly ever going into Florida for example, so be it.

And you will never get impressed pulling freight for free and at $1.30 a mile you are taking a loss it cost you more than that to operate

I need to become a broker they have you labeled FREE HAULER

And the will quickly go back down it does that every year for a few weeks

Negotiate thats the key I have hauled quite a few loads for CH and Coyote and none under 2.13 a mile and as high as 10 a mile

Why not if you cant Negotiate there is no need to call anyone

That was sarcasm (note the smiley). If he's not calling them, I will. My rates with those two are in line with yours.

going into florida is not the problem.coming out is the kicker.Steer clear of it and california and if/when enough drivers do,things will change for the better.

Whats the best way besides negotiating to get better paying loads out of CA?? What lanes are considered dead zones??

$3.00 to 4.00 per mile can be had across the board for all hauling situations , the thing is all trucking companies or Owner Operators need to be on the same page and just learn to turn down the low dollar , I know we all need money to operate , but this is not rocket science , there are only so many truckers around if 5o% of truckers refused to haul for cheap $ then and only then would we see the rates go up ! I have thought about this for quite some time , I think its long overdo to start some type of movement for the trucking industry . We deserve it ! Our families deserve it ! Everybody is making money except for the actual slave ! US !
