Reefer rates!

You people running dirt cheap freight all the time are the reason there IS so much dirt cheap freight. Think about it. You make me wanna reach thru my monitor and slap some common sense into you for #### sakes.

 

its common sense, if a certian company is going to haul it for $1.90, you'd best haul it for $1.80 or you aren't getting the load

 

if the cost of freight goes up then the cost is passed to the customer at the store, and when said customers find out its because truck drivers want more money then imagine the outrage. they will start to yell and scream about how greedy truck drivers are

are you willling to pay the extra cost? if so then I better not hear complaining when the cost of anything goes up at any store. to include the cost of fuel.

 

Jabber, with all due respect ... After what several members have told you here and in other threads ... You just don't seem to get it ... You are someone who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing. Until you understand that you should never miss a good opportunity to keep your mouth shut.

If all I can average is $1.80 a mile it's not worth the time and investment to be an owner op. I'd sell my truck and trailer and drive someone else's or do something else entirely. I've never held a gun to anyone's head to get a good rate. Sometimes people need things moved and are willing to pay the price to get it done - especially in the reefer business with perishable product.

As to the price going up at the store - if I get $3000 instead of $1800 on a 1000 mile load of produce that weighs 40000 lbs my "outrageous" rate is only going to increase the cost of that produce .03 per pound. Hardly going to break anyone's bank.

 

so you're going to go to the store that sells the same product for a higher price? I find that hard to believe

 

$1.64/mi is how much it costs to move that truck, so even at $1.70 you're still making money, its hardly enough to worry about, but profit is profit

the .03/lb will STILL be noticed and people will complain. yea its basicly immeasurable, but still

and if cheap freight is so terrible why are companies making money by pulling it? Schneider, JB Hunt, swift, Prime (i've heard Prime is getting really evil with cheap freight)

 

Actually if the product is of higher quality i will pay a higher price. Are strawberries that have been there for 3 days just as good as the ones that just got there? I guess its difficult to think this way if you only ever earn enough to buy from the stale bread shelf.

 

i'm not comparing 3 day old strawberries and moldy bread, i'm talking about the exact same product

and please don't get all philisphical about "nothing is eaxctly the same" because if you do then you're just trying to argue using no actual logic
