The cold storage rates will get them moving every time. good drivers get stuck with loads too often because - like you said - "the freight is on your trailer." I can't tell you how many docks i backed into only to find out that the warehouse isnt open when they said it was. So now the freight is yours until the place opens up. Like you said, sometimes you gotta play hardball, because everyone else is!

are u guys hiring?
-
On August 2008 I bought my first truck.I was hired by a small company.
By 2009 loads were hard to find and good paying ones did not exist.
The company believed cheap ($1.50 p/m) freight was better then no freight at all. We did refrigerated loads
out of Belle Glade Florida and Laredo Texas. I tried to explain cheap loads are not the way to go. I could not
operate my truck at that rate. I decided to get my own running authorities.
By 2011 I had 5 trucks and reefer trailers bought and paid for. Our route was from Toronto Canada to Atlanta Georgia
to Toronto Canada and averaging $3.50 p/m. The company I used to work for was averaging $1.75 p/m.
Today the owner at age 72 runs a single truck trying to pay his bills.
My trucks did not move under $2.75 p/m. Each trip has to be profitable. Starting wage for drivers was $.42 per mile
They would be away for 4 days and home for 2 and averaging $250 per day while on the road. If I couldn't get them out
from home terminal within 48 hrs I would pay them $150 per day to sit at home. While on the road if I couldn't reload them
within 25 hrs they would be paid $250 per day. I could afford this by saying "NO" to cheap freight.
I took care of my drivers and my drivers took care of me and my customers.
2 years ago my doctor pulled all of my driving privileges. At age 47 I retired.
Say "NO" to cheap freight. All you are doing is running yourself and your equipment into the ground.
Drivers who take cheap freight should not be in this industry.jeff18, WesternEmpire, oldtrucker66 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Driver who don't take Cheap freight aren't making any money, they are sitting at a truck stop, or wherever instead of making money, and probably complaining about how they aren't making any money
if YOU don't take the cheap freight, somebody else will -
You got your own truck yet jabber?
double yellow and Cat sdp Thank this. -
