It’s the rate - pure and simple.
I’ll go from Kansas City to Denver for $5/mile minimum, because I know there’s nothing in Denver to haul worth a $&@“.
Round trip rates will solve his problem.Dino soar, Speed_Drums, TokyoJoe and 5 others Thank this. -
$2,500 to the truck on 2,000 miles (round trip) - $1.25/mile to the truck.
Let’s say you support cheap rates and pull a load back to Pomona for $1.25/mile.
$3,250 for 3 days (with no delays) on 2,000 miles - $1.62/mile to the truck.
Operational cost for a truck? Varies - $1.00 to $1.50.
I can park my truck and drive for a company for $0.65 cpm tomorrow.
Endless supply of new entrants to the industry with high debt will shift that freight, but in current times - the herd thins a little quicker.
Hence your clients dilemma.lynchy, Dino soar, Acejack702 and 8 others Thank this. -

blairandgretchen and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
I got $3 in and 1.44 out recently , doesn't happen very often .
blairandgretchen and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
If not a round trip rate, at the very least it should pay enough to cover the miles from Denver to SLC so there’s a fighting chance of a load back to CA.
blairandgretchen, D.Tibbitt and BONNEY_W Thank this. -

Go get a coors or Anheiser busch load out of the denver area and take it back to Pomona. Used to do that almost every time I went to Denver from SoCal as a company driver.
Speed_Drums Thanks this. -
Isn’t there a big brewery just 30 mins north of Denver?
