I am applying for KYU permit and wanted clarification on where to find the Registered Gross Weight of my Volvo 780, so that I don't plug in the incorrect number.

    Will someone tell me?

    Thank you

Look at your cabcard. That will tell you what your registered weight is.

So I applied and received in email a temporary permit from this website:
    Motor Carrier Permits

Is this all I need to drive through KY? Any numbers on the truck?

is there any instructions on the permit when you printed it out. i don't operate in ky so i can't tell you for sure but most permits i get have some kind of instructions on them ie "must be carried in vehicle" "display in lower right corner of windshield" ifta stickers have instructions on where to place the stickers on the back side...ect

Kentucky has an extra weight mile tax represented by the letters KYU. typically a carrier gets an account and adds each vehicle and vin number to the account. The vehicles I don't believe need to display the kyu account number on the side of the trucks but it does help the scale officer quickly pull up your account to see that this particular truck is registered. You only need to have this permit if you are 60,000 pounds or heavier. From that website it looks like they will let you buy a 10 day vehicle specific permit to satisfy the kyu requirements if you only pass through once in a while. If you have an account it must be filed and paid quarterly based on the distance you drove through Kentucky, and it doesn't matter what proportion of those miles were above or below the 60,000 pound threshold. It is often cheaper to get the permit and file quarterly.
