Why don't they just return the hos to the version that worked for us without the complications or stupid exemptions. This would help more than any other thing they can do.

I see it as a way that if your unloading, you go off duty 3 hours u can pause the 14 hour and then drive to a truckstop without going over. I can see this being useful. Or am I misreading? Does it have to be 3 hours at once or can it be like 1.5 hours twice in a day ?

A bill has been introduced that would allow truck drivers to take one rest break per shift, for up to three consecutive hours on off-duty time.

In a March 29 statement, Rep. Brian Babin (R-Texas) said his Responsible and Effective Standards for Truckers Act (HR 5417), or REST, is aimed at “modernizing” hours of service for truck drivers.

The single off-duty period would not be counted toward the driver’s 14-hour, on-duty allowance and would not extend the total, allowable drive limits, Babin said in a statement.

This break up to 3 hours replaces the 30 minute break.

There would be an outcry from the “I can only drive 10 hours” and the “I like my 10 hour break” crowd.

I would like this max 3 hour break count towards to 10. Also why require off duty, why not sleeper berth.

Why drive more then necessary. After all. It was 10 hours for 75 years before the regs changed in 04 to what we have today.

For decades we have a perfectly good operating system.

I was just over on the garment factory workers forum and they want to work at least 17 hours a day too.
