What's everyone's opinion on the Road Rangers truck stops? I know they've been around awhile but I just went back over the road last November and discovered Road Rangers popping up in Texas. I like them. I mean yeah they are pretty much your everyday cookie cutter truck stop but at least they give you several options when it comes to food. They're building one in Vidor, Tx with a Church's Chicken in it. That's just fine with me since Church's is my favorite fried chicken place.

I like them. Many of them have a lot of parking. They make me think they're Pilot's step sibling. Lol. They've built one in Joplin and somewhere in Arkansas, maybe Wheatley, and both have Wendy's, which is a plus for me as that's one of my favorite fast food joints.

I showered at a Road Ranger one time and I will never go back. It was up north somewhere, back when they were affiliated with PFJ. I took a shower and not only did they have no heat in the building but no hot water. I literally got hypothermia. I told them I was reporting them to Pilot that this was absolutely unacceptable. The problem was I was shivering so badly I couldn't talk. I had to clamour to my truck, put the heater on WIDE OPEN and wait almost an hour before I could go back inside and give them a piece of my mind.
Not long after that, maybe a month or two, PFJ dumped them. I was one who called to complain. -
Anything other then the typical love/flying hook or ta is fine ith me

Years ago, Road Rangers in the Midwest were nearly all branded ‘Citgo’ on the fuel side. After awhile RR went unbranded for fuel.

If you come in in the middle of the night the parking lot is full and fuel island empty. In the middle of the day, it's the opposite.
You want to see a cluster, go to ANY PFJ at any time, PERIOD. PFJ was the only truck stop that I had to "make a spot" at at 5pm. I was parked right up against the last legit spot. I got caught without drive time after being kicked out a shipper without drive time. I could call that a safe place so I had to stop. I stayed there until 130 in the morning without any issues, and at about 1am someone came and parked along the curb near my truck making it impossible for people to make that left turn to get out of the parking lot. So the guy who can't make the turn wakes ME up, not the guy who just parked, to tell me to move. I told him when I parked here nobody was parked on that curb so go wake THAT driver up, not me.
I HATE PFJ.Last edited: Nov 19, 2024

I run in south Texas only and have noticed them popping up along the interstates these past few years. I think it's great to have multiple options to stop for the occasional bathroom break or to get a drink.
