Hey all,
So I had my phone interview last week, and the scheduled me for a road test/physical/meet the team tomorrow (8/13) in Plainview, TX. I have always heard that the WalMart private fleet was one of the best to drive for. The pay is certainly exceptional. It's one of those places you retire from.
Here is my hesitation. I currently haul sand in the oilfield. I can get paid more at WalMart, but there are a number of upsides to staying where I'm at. I am home every night, I have a 2018 International LT that has been mine since it was brand new. I am dispatched from the house, and I can pretty much take off whenever I want to. They are a family owned and run company that respects the fact that their drivers have lives outside of work, and will make every reasonable accommodation to make sure that you have enough time with your family. They leave you alone and let you do your job.
I have heard some not so great stories about WalMart. Bedbugs in the trucks. slip seating multiple times/week, micromanaging worse than a training company, and driver-facing cameras...absolutely yuck.
Are these all true? I don't do micromanaging. And if they're as bad as some people have stated, that's a no-go right there. Help me out, folks.

rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

Driver facing/no, slip seating yes, no weekend off, you won't be home every night, as for micro management.... don't hit stuff, be professional and more than likely you'll be left alone. Good luck

You applied for a job at Walmart, something bothers you about your current job, maybe you know that the oil industry is a never ending cycle of booms and busts.
The answer to your dilemma resides inside your head already.
I don't work hard here at Walmart and money is good and steady, as long as you can play diplomacy and learn to let the little frustrations go away, this is a good place to be.
Good luck on your decision.laaylor, Hammerdowntrucker and MilkyJay Thank this. -
It really works out as to what you want out of life. If you have children growing up, then weekends off even with less pay would be where it is at...got to have an assigned truck you don't share, then stay where you at...want to be recognized as a professional at the top of your field, come on down. The safety folks at Plainview are pretty fair. Get hold of a current driver(even if you have to button hole one at a store or truckstop) to let you know what to expect...our road test are probably alittle different than others you have taken.
