Oh geeze, nothing like the smell of rotting meat! Do you mean they wouldn't let you get a wash-out for that? I can't imagine ANY shipper loading a trailer that would smell like that one must have, even after being swept out! Can't see how anything other than a full wash out, would get rid of the stench.
NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
Must not have ever hauled soda or beer either! Those guys are really picky about trailer wash outs.

Truck wash places like Blue Beacon (and others) do trailer washouts as well. That's pretty much a 'must do' when running reefer . . . washing out the trailer! Sounds like a company that doesn't care about anything except the bottom line.NavigatorWife Thanks this.

Photos would also be handy to back up what you are saying.

My hubby is a reefer runner, spuds and produce mainly. He's got a flat floor trailer, since bulk spuds are a real PITA on anything but. A sweep out is usually good enough for most of his other loads, but there have been places that specified a washout before loading, soda and beer loads mostly. If the wagon needs it, it gets washed, end of story and no questions asked. He keeps the same trailer all the time too. Got fed up with taking different trailers and having someone screw up one that he had just gotten all the bugs worked out of. He finally put his foot down with the boss and told them that the trailer he has is his and stays with him.
One tip for trailers that seem to carry a smell is to toss some coffee grounds in the trailer. There have been a couple of loads that he has hauled where he ended up doing that. One of them was a load of plastic. I can't remember what some of the other loads have been that stunk up his trailer. -
Coffee works wonders. I had a load of flavoring to go on Doritos chips. Smell was very strong but about 1/2 a big tin of coffee and a half hour to let it sit got it pretty much all gone. Good enough to load fresh produce anyway.

Sounds like they got a visit, or at least a phone call.

Well load out got wash down and trailers all got washed out over the weekend. lots of new trailer brooms to go around and no complaints, but being encouraged to wash out any spills at the company lot now.Lilbit Thanks this.

Sounds like someone loaded a very big foot down on them. Great that now the washouts will occur and hopefully help the situation. Now if you can just get everyone on the jig to do their share when dropping a trailer that is mty.Panhandle flash and Big Don Thank this.
