Good luck with that. It is much more likely that you will be picking up a dirty trailer and washing it out before you leave the yard. Shouldn't be that way, but how many times do you hook to a trailer, and find that it should have been redlined when it was dropped. I just hated that. Spend hours looking for an empty, then spend hours in the shop getting it road worthy.:biggrin_25513:

Do you get paid for all the time spent on trailer searches/washouts/repairs?

I will say that is utterly disgusting....I would never imagine putting food in a trailer that nasty....I wash after every load.....unless I am picking up non food (ie bulk mail, liquid totes, etc non food stuff) non temp sensetive and my trailer isn't disgusting from meat or other food product......but I ALWAYS WASH before loading any kind of food...whether it be temp sensetive or not...and when in doubt wash it out is my motto...I would rather be safe than sorry....plus sometimes I need a little extra lead time so I can have a DRY clean trailer that has been washed out for some of our customers....

It's one thing to have to washout a trailer being mandatory at some of the shippers, but what used to be maddening were the people who could leave a trailer that needed to be swept out where someone else had to do it. Husband had plenty of those trailers that ended up with flats, missing mudflaps and even lights. And spending the time chasing around fixing things isn't paid for, too bad it wasn't though, he just had one the other day that should have been redlined and took it to a shop for repairs, it eats up your driving time too if the load is close on hours to get delivered.

I don't know if any company pays for the services provided in fixing, washing, and chasing the elusive trailer that should have been there but isn't.

Again we deliver to to customers but we unload the product and take it into the stores they never see how nasty are trucks and trailers are most of are trucks and trailers are assigned to a particular route as are the drivers so the same 2 or 3 people are always driving the setup. I shuttle trucks and trailer out to are remote drivers. the guys I run to in gary IN are slobs if they spill something in the cab to bad they leave cups bottles food bags what ever for me to clean up after a few months I only pick up the big stuff and wash out the trailers finally. Now my guys in Lexington they take pride in there trucks they still look new inside I take them cleaning supply paper towels any extras the company is giving away like fruit veggies bottled water. But like today I had to take them a different truck and trailer because the loaders screwed up the truck order they were none to happy I had to clean the steering wheel so I could stand to touch it and the trailer is one of the worst I have seen there. The trailer will be washed out tomorrow after it's empty as for the truck it's got less than 5k brand new and looks like and out house in side, I'm returning it that way, boss said it's the drivers responsibility to clean them I told him tell it to the regular drivers you dont pay me enough to have a sex change and be there mom. There another write up waiting for me to sign tomorrow lol a few more weeks and I'm done with this local job.

Sounds like you need to be out sooner than later if they are starting the write up scenario.

the FMCSA does not over see the cleanlyness of trailers.
I looked cover to cover in thier hand book, they dont have anything

Glad i work for a company that has not problem with it's drivers getting washout when reloading. I have worked for others who won't let thier drivers get a washout, or won't reimburse the driver for them.
