Yeah there is a poster in Logs that says "SAFE HAVEN IS A MYTH". With some of the info from that site on it that its basically JUST for explosive haulers. I wish that poster was in every truck stop just to put an end to it.
I was up in arizona west of kingman on i40 at that rest area yesterday. The reading on my temp gauge said 120. My apu shut down due to overheating. By 2100, after dark, still 111.
It was 114 yesterday in Coachella according my weather app. I really think the radiator for the APU is too small. It didn't like the heat at all.
Well I got popped for a second inspection in 4 months at that sb weigh station i5 right before the grapevine. The guy put on his gloves and went to work. 45 minutes later my truck must have felt raped. Anyways, he found a problem and gave me a warning citation. Here was the problem verbatim "applied air loss audible leak under radiator." I certainly can't here it from the cab. Now how many of you, during your pretrip, put chocks down, release your brakes, put something on your foot brake to hold it down, open your hood, and listen for air leaks under your radiator? Incidentally, this guy sprayed water on all my brake lines looking for bubbles. When he did the applied brake test looking at my air pressure, I didn't see any extraordinary loss of air. I have no idea what triggered this extra thorough cavity search, but it was something I've never experienced before.
Jesus...plus..what airline is under the radiator that only pressurizes during brake application? I thought maybe you got extra inspected because of CVSA Brake day but that's on the 7th... CVSA's Brake Safety Day is Sept. 7, 2017 - CVSA - Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance That seems like one of those situations where he wasn't going to let you leave without a violation no matter what...
Those guys never wanna say your clear. Last time i got an inspection there i had a loose bolt on my engine block. Smh because of course we torq every freaking bolt.
