I do love that command. Also "brightness off" and "miles per gallon" are a couple of mine I could see using. I guess "read message" could be useful too.. And I don't like the certify because it's day by day instead of an approve all. I did test the "how fast you can go until it auto switches you " limit and logs was right...lol. Plugging a keyboard into it still works though..thank God.
I've used a Logitech Unifying wireless keyboard from day one and I like it. One day, not too long ago, I noticed my Omnitracs has a bluetooth transceiver built in. I have a bluetooth keyboard I wasn't using so I decided to try to pair it with the Omnitracs. I couldn't get the Omnitracs to recognize the Logitech, or any of my bluetooth devices, to save my life, so I'm not sure what the bluetooth feature is supposed to be used for.
Yep using the same keyboard! I bet it has either to do with log transmission during inspections or for programming by installers...if I was a betting man...
Also I just checked my phone and my Omnitracs is showing up under Bluetooth. Not pairable of course but the name matches my unit address.
Yes sir, my phone finds it as well, just cannot pair. I think you are correct about being used strictly for programming by the installers or perhaps transferring logs, but I think the latter is less likely. With that in mind, now you have me wondering if 2 trucks with the same Omnitracs got close enough together, could the Omnitracs see and pair with each other? If so, what purpose would that have? You can transfer all of the logging information to any Omnitracs by simply logging out of one and logging into another. If the 2 could pair with each other, I wonder if they could transfer the load messages because that is lost when you get a new device. Just enough information to screw something up but not enough to be able to fix it.
I'm thinking something more nefarious. We have all these Logging Devices broadcasting their address on Bluetooth. What would stop someone who could figure out HOW to connect using some kind of exploit and just wipe any elog they come across. Drive by wiping.
Though I guess if I did a google search...we would find out what its for LOL https://www.omnitracs.com/sites/default/files/IVG_Referral_06-17-Brochure.pdf Scanner/Printer/Accessory Connectivity via Bluetooth*
In my best Homer Simpson voice.......DOH!!!! (but to be fair, the asterisk says "coming soon" and the "Accessory Connectivity" may mean the use of BT keyboards, <crossing fingers>).
We've been hearing rumors for years that weigh stations and DOT roaming patrols could wirelessly connect to an ELD and do a quick scan for violations, maybe that is what the Bluetooth is for.
Good thing JCT refuses to replace the old giant Qualcomms. The only thing that thing can do is fax the logs. It can't even email them.
