The most likely reason, is medical. Sleep apnea being a big one, but it could also be due to issues with a person's back or neck. Some people for whatever reasons, find that sleeping while sitting up, especially for shorter durations, easier and quicker than trying to fall asleep while lying down. I doubt very seriously drivers napping in their driver seat are doing so because they're too lazy to walk 5 feet behind them.
Your probably right, but you can still sit up against the wall in the bunk. My wife has sleep apena, so, I know it was easier for her to sleep propped up until she got her machine. Still, sleeping behind the wheel is training yourself that it's ok to sleep there. So, between the lack of sleep (for whatever reason) and the habit of napping behind the wheel......and people wonder why they fall asleep while driving.
Could be a team mate already back there and they want to give the team mate some peace and not disturb them.
Good point. I didn't even think about that. Still doesn't change my belief on sleeping in the driver seat.
If you pick up at Duda Dandy in Salinas, Ca., make sure you have a confirmation # starting with 100 or 101. They will not allow you to check in without that #. Had a 2300 appt there last night and wasn't able to check in until 0530 today, that's how long it took to get that # from planners. Then had to reset appt to 1100 today. Am being taken care of as we are being paid detention for our time, but still a pain. Also, we may refuse all repower requests anymore as this last driver we swapped with really screwed us! Three pallets fallen over as well as being 340lbs over on trlr tandems going into Cali.! This clown was a real idiot and I think I might be a little dumber having met him.
I can't state in this public forum what I had to do to get rid of eleven damaged cases of chicken, just know it was a tremendous pain in the ###. As these cases were the size of banker's boxes, it required many stops over several hours. To the driver that knowingly passed this onto us, screw you!
