I generally always run my TK in AC mode, especially of course in the summer, and because I like it cold, so I never noticed this. I first got suspicious of it when I left it in battery protect null mode when my truck was down, and I got back to the truck with dead batteries and the apu trying to start every minute or so and failing. But it fired up in AC mode on first try...its odd and I sure as hell aint running it AC mode in the winter just to make sure the batteries stay up good for the heater...

I guess a good thing is I can reproduce the problem quite easily as I cook in the truck and it drains the batteries pretty good

Also while I remember, what is your or y'alls opinion on steer tire replacement? Do you wait until it gets up to DOT levels or do you replace earlier since steer blow outs are pretty much the most dangerous? And whats your preferred brand, for both fuel economy and traction? And does JCT prorate the steer tires like they do the drives?

I'm not sure about the pro rate. Most tire blowouts are due to under inflation. Keep your air pressure correct for the weight you carry and barring any defects or abuse (curb scraping, potholes) or road debris they should last all the or mechical failure on the truck way down to DOT minimums.

My last set of stress lasted all the way down to DOT minimums. Replaced them with the same tire. Michelin XZA3.

I also keep my steers at 110psi since at max weights I am putting 12500lbs on the steers. Never had a problem. I keep the drives at 120psi without a single problem.

Good enough for me. I just know this truck has 280K on it, and I dont know exactly when the last time the steers were replaced, but I know they are getting down and showing some river wear in the treads. I keep them at 110 myself as well, and 120 on the drives. So in that we are alike.

While the truck was in the shop to regular PM and to get the apu back up and running. I sat down with one of the DM's today and got a behind the scenes look at the operation. I already had an idea of what went on, but it was eye opening to see just how much goes on in the background.

I was "enlighted" on how much "hand holding" was needed for some of these drivers. I mean, really, come on, you can't figure out how to get around the closed section of CA-58 without calling the home office to tell you how to do it? Why do you need to be told set the temp to 35 degrees continuous on a produce load? This is something you should already know to do in the first place.

I also got my first safe driver pin today (finally picked it up out of my driver folder). There is a nation wide program where highway police evaluate your driving while taking video via a dash cam. The comment on your speed, road and weather conditions, traffic, etc. for a few miles. The video is then uploaded where JCT can access the video. If you did good (and am told that they get more videos than bad) you get a safe driver pin along with a print out of the summary of your driving. If you get a bad one, you are called back to have a sit down to figure where you went wrong. So, if you notice you are being tailed by the highway police, then there is a chance you are being evaluated. I even got to see the video on me.
