Yep. If the Smith System, or the same habits under another name, isn't part of who you are every time you're moving down the highway, professional driver is a misnomer for you. You're just a guy who drives trucks for a living.
I would go so far as to suggest that most of us probably subconsciously use those habits when walking or hiking. It's not a system, it's literally how we've taught our brain to work when moving.

2 words,,,cell phone. Everything was just fine
, until 1999, when the widespread use of cellphones mushroomed. It was like a switch was flipped, I instantly saw a huge distraction, that has only gotten worse. I say, have some sort of gizmo that cuts phone service while vehicle is moving, and while we're at it, someone will have invent some sort of device that monitors road conditions, cutting speed, because the drivers are too stupid,,,oops, I mean too distracted to do it themselves.

1. 39 years.
2. Hand holding and electronic cattle prods in trucks. If you don’t use your skills, you will lose them. The way that the human brain synapses work, if you don’t fire off that synapse, the synapse will shut down. Thinking and learning becomes much more difficult.
3. Put the PROFESSIONAL part back into the industry. Want better? Demand better. Meat in the seat will just allow the societal losers to stay.
4. Safety programs are anti-productive. More handholding. Handholding in any profession is bad.
5. Your research is a wasted effort.Last edited: Dec 9, 2025
