Line 5 interrupts your break. 10 hour break is line 1 and 2 ONLY.
-
The way the law is, you can line 5 on a 30 min break. You are officially off duty. Just can't advance the load. Alot of companies have different policies regarding line 5 that supercede FMCSA. Of course it's not law, it's the companies own law which you can decide to obey or not. Just depends on if you enjoy being employed by said company. The OP raised every red flag when he logged out. Typically you should only log out when your truck is in the shop, or a slip seat operation.

Amazingly wrong.
Technically there is no line five, if you are using it you are off duty, they just put it in there to show what's going on with the truck. It is not really it's own duty status.scottied67, sealevel and not4hire Thank this. -
You would be wrong sir. Off Duty driving cannot be used during your 10, and it cannot be used to extend your 14.

Sorry, you are wrong on the first part, but correct on the second. Feel free to post the regulation that you think supports your position.
The only restriction to using personal conveyance (as qualified by the FMCSA) is that the driver not be out-of-service.
Question 26: If a driver is permitted to use a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) for personal reasons, how must the driving time be recorded?
Guidance:
[snipped]
A driver placed out of service for exceeding the requirements of the hours of service regulations may not drive a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) to any location to obtain rest.

Tug Toy Thanks this. -
No it doesn't

Sure it can. If i drop a load at my yard, i am relieved of responsibility. I can then drive around to do whatever i want... dinner, shopping, movies, etc. If i use 1 hour driving doing that, i can go back to my yard, finish 9 hours sleeper or off duty, hook back to my load and now i have a fresh 11/14.ChaoSS Thanks this.

Personal Conveyance has always been recognized at Off Duty time and is contributable to a 10 hour DOT required rest period.

I begin to consider the old off duty waiver cards kaput now. If you are off duty or in sleeper, that tractor and or trailer does not move one blessed inch until your time is up.
I would take REAL close look at who changes that log and why that day if your company does not have a line 5 option then you need to find a company that does. Also I consider logs set in stone when I turn them in, as they are as it haoppened no one gets to mess with it or fool with it. They spot a violation? Great, start writing violations reports and make the usual threats. Otherwise leave the #### logs alone.
