Hi everyone. My husband signed on with Schneider and went to Orientation. He was told Orientation would be 3 days but it wasn't, it was 4 days but he only was paid for 3 days. While in Orientation he had the form asking him if he wanted the per diem and he said no since we already track it. The first paycheck was fine until this Friday, they paid him by per diem and of course paid him .02 cents less per mile for doing so. He's going to call payroll on Monday to try to fix this but we do not understand why they would put him in the per diem program even though he said no and having 4 days of Orientation and not get paid for it? Is this normal?

I do know that standard policy is that all new hires go onto per diem when they start and they have to opt out of it if they are experienced. Was he experienced when he came in? If not, he has to wait 90 days. If he is, then he should be able to opt out at any time, but they do stutter-step on occasion. Tell him to square it up with his DBL, and find out what happened. If that doesn't work, then go to Payroll. Good Luck!

SNI has a policy of new company hires are automatically on per diem for the first 90 days. Have him call his DBL. As far as Orientation that depends on class size and how quickly the course materials are covered and how many questions are asked etc... SNI has always had a 3.5 day orientation for experienced drivers and sometimes it is shorter or longer again depending on class size.

Yep, he's experienced and he did opt out. He'll contact his dbl or payroll to fix it. Hopefully, he can get the money back they took from him.

TennMann - there was only 4 people in the class with him and he could not figure out why it was so long and didn't get paid for it?

I doubt he'll see pay for that last day, but he could try asking his DBL. About the best that I can offer. Make sure he goes through his DBL first, they get very upset when you go over their heads.

    SherylReno Thanks this.

My orientation (experienced) was also almost 4 days amd they only paid ne for 3. They tried to get me to go on per diem and For some reason I had to talk to 3 different people, who all made sure tell how much more money I woild make on ot, before I finally got the form to opt out
