Virginia is one of those places you will want to get a good rate going in. I don't go there because I don't care for the East Coast. I believe that guys that run it a lot have ways to make it work for them.

Am I missing something here? I've been driving 17yrs. Just filled out apps for the lease.

Been reading these threads and took a look at the board on an ICs laptop.

Seems pretty straightforward and simple to me. Am I completely ignorant? Or just insanely intelligent?

Look at the board for the day you wanna start running.

    Choose the highest paying load.

Check to make sure where it delivers has frieght available for when you deliver.

    Choose highest paying load.

Check to see if there's freight available where and when that delivers.

    Check, check, check.

    Book all 3 loads.

Run first load, book 4th load using same criteria as previously stated.

    Repeat all previous steps.

    Make money.

    Decide you wanna go home.

Book the highest paying load that will get you near house as long as it covers fixed cpm on truck.

    Go home, enjoy life, repeat....

I don't understand why this is so difficult for people.

Yes, I agree you must know and be aware of a few things like your fixed costs, your mpg and your personal financial needs. I'm also pretty sure it would help if you're a self starter, organized and have a little business or common sense. But come on guys, this is truck driving, not rocket science. I think too many make this out to be way more complicated then it has to be.

Life's a journey so let the road (freight) take you wherever it leads you. :)

And when you're in Texas and about to do your nice $2 a mile load going out....they cancel and you're stuck in Texas looking at .60 a mile out.

You pickup a preloaded trailer just to find a huge hole in the side of the trailer and have to get it reloaded and your next load has to be cancel because of it

Load cancel or chasing empty seem to be the problem.

But then in your ".60cpm" example you simply choose the shortest ".60cpm" load that will get you into better freight lanes. So you run 300 miles @ .60cpm to pick up another $2/ mile load. It's not the end of the world.

As far as chasing MTs? Doesn't Schneider pay for anything over 50 miles?

This is all just my opinion and in no way is anything implied or expressed towards you in a negative way. Just saying that taking lemons, adding a little sugar and some water is way better then trying to just eat the lemon LOL!!!

Just do what an IC did in obetz on Friday, he couldn't find an MT and needed one to drop at his next customer to pick up his next load, so instead of playing find the MT he just grabbed a loaded trailer and dropped it at his pick up! Oh, he did that Friday at a customer that locks the gate for the weekend and that load needed to be delivered on Sunday, MT trailer search solved! Lol

You forgot one important thing. That fixed payment doesn't stop. If you have to take 2 weeks off, you already 1600 to 2k in the whole.h

IMO the people at the gate controls aren't doing their job correctly.
