I started with May, gave it 4 months and moved on. When I was just out of school some said just pick what color truck you want and go with that because all the starter companies are the same. There is some truth to that, I didn't follow the "stay six months"or "stay a year" advice, the theory being job hoppers don't get hired by good companies. I had moved on to my third job within one year then stayed put four years because I landed a local job hauling wood chips and home daily. That job was ok but the pay lacked and the hours were long so I started looking for something new and got into various types of dump trucking, three years later I'm still at it after two more job changes. Two and a half years where I am now and life is pretty good, working 10 miles from home out in the country ,hourly pay, most weekends off, dayshift 99% of the time. Running a variety of equipment, we pull end dumps, side dumps, flat beds, containers, solo dump truck or truck and pup, roll offs, walking floors, possum bellies and more so I never get bored with the same old same old. I should make close to 75K this year which ain't bad for living way out in the sticks working close to home and sleeping in my own bed every night.
My point in all this is don't get too wrapped up in worrying about that first gig, get some experience and if you're not happy after a few months move on. There's a gozillion different CDL jobs out there and a driver shortage so keep your feelers out your eyes wide open and your driving record as clean as possible. kw.jpg

When you get a year under your belt in this business, the door swings open much, much wider.

If it was me, in all seriousness, I'd go to Schneider.

I mack on Schneider all the time.

But in all sincerity that's where I'd do my year.

You don't want to jump around from company to company. That will hurt you later on.

Werner recuiters started becoming ### holes so they're out of the question. Probably something I said but if you can't be patient with me over a phone your lost. Between Schneider or May now, doing my 4 to 6 months there then moving on to Crete. Owner operating as soon as I have the notches under my belt. Thanks for you input man, been the most helpful.

I drive for Werner and have a thread with some of the stuff the recruiter won’t tell you. Like the fact that the stale pilsner account will be live unloads. You get paid nothing to sit. If you are camped for more than 6 hrs your dispatch might throw you a $20. They have decent CBT training, nice equipment, and mediocre health insurance at best. I’ve actually talked to a million miler who went to Swift and was happier if that tells you anything. PM me if you want.

I've heard Swift is getting better. Way I look at it Schneider > Swift > Werner > Western Express.

Crete wont hire you first?.they were my first choice but I went with May instead because of the rider policy. Crete is paying a good CPM rate..they have a lot of options. Again you can't go wrong with May starting out especially if you are out of Lebanon or Pensacola

No because they don't accept graduates from the CDL school I go to. For that reason I'm required at least 4 months with another company before any consideration. I wish!!! Cause Ive heard nothing but good things from them.

I decided on May finally cause I didn't realize Werner and Scnieder do hair folicle test that trace back 6 months. Wouldn't want to ruin all my chances of driving period.
