I exited from Schneider late last year, after spending time in both the OTR and intermodal divisions. I was with them for over a year and a half.

Based on what I learned there, I would submit that you would do MUCH BETTER financially if you look hard at some of the suggestions that @Chinatown has posted for you--especially in the LTL sector (e.g., YRC Freight).

My wife just finished up at Schneider. 2 weeks school 2 weeks road trainer. 5th week cdl test. Now she is going teaming with me. I already had cdl for a long time. She was an office worker for 20 years and she did it

Job ID: 212240 is the paid training opportunity on the orange pumpkins website. I did their training a few years ago and it worked out nicely. They stopped training from the ground up for awhile but it looks like they are training again. It’s FREE, and they feed you twice a day and put you in a hotel for a few weeks.

I was only 1 hour away from home during the training so it was very ideal for me. Highly recommend this and there is NO contract. Hard to believe but it’s how I got my CDL.

    Chinatown Thanks this.

Schneiser is as good a place as any to start. Do your year, do not jump around, then things get a lot better.

I drove tanker for schneider for 2 years and although there are some respectable people in the bulk division, the company is set up to make everything a hassle. The money is not good and they just don't give a rats ### about any issues you might encounter. Even their drivers choice program is completely controlled by company agents. They call their dispatchers,"driver business leaders", it's more like driver frustration leaders.

Driver Business Leader = Middle man to the middle man, has no say or power to do anything; a "let me put you on hold" specialist.

I have no experience with them as far as acquiring a CDL, however they are a good place to start your career but you will not be compensated fairly. Look into some LTL companies and first before making a final decision.
