Snow plow’s sudden u-turn sends load through cab of semi truck after driver slams brakes
kind of a misleading title
If the driver had secured his load properly , hitting the brakes on a snow covered road would not have the load going through the cab .
Secure those flatbed loads !

It look like he only had five straps on that whole load if that’s the case, more than likely, he didn’t even have enough securement on there for the weight limit of the load… Secondly, he should’ve belly strap some of that pipe
bryan21384 Thanks this. -
From the looks of the photos he should of stacked the load creating downward pressure on the pipe. Regardless the number of straps you will never create enough pressure to secure center pieces especially in winter with snow ice and slick boards.

A couple of belly wraps and/or find a point in front of the load to throw a safety chain across to keep it from shifting forward in a situation like this. Not to mentioned that there’s moisture involved and that usually makes anything shift if not properly secured.

Nice polished fuel tank.
Plow truck drivers have been causing major havoc the past few years. Remember the Ohio Turnpike last winter?Blue jeans, mjd4277, Coover and 1 other person Thank this. -
All around PA the state puts lighted signs up that they're hiring winter plow drivers at all the rest areas. The same guys that can't even back into a parking spot are getting recruited to drive a truck down the road with a 16 ft plow in front of it...Blue jeans, mjd4277, Coover and 1 other person Thank this.

Dang......I hope that driver lived to tell about it. I can't tell if that load is coming or going.

Definitely not properly secured. Simply throwing straps over round things allows for the middle ones to slide right through, as depicted in the pics. He needed at least two straps fully wrapping that load, at the minimum. Even better, blocking between each tube helps provide traction between them and an even wider wrap, which is mechanically advantageous for the straps.

Just seen a flatbed rolling on I-64 in WV with a load of RR track. Used rail that looked as though it was dumped on the trailer since it was turned ever which way. He had about 6 maybe 7 2” ratchet straps on it…..
drvrtech77 Thanks this.
