Could you not do each unit at a time? Push the tractor button in, (trailer still applied) walk around and listen . Go back in the cab pull the tractor button push in the trailer button and go walk around. Or is that to much work?

checking that your air goes through the entire system is good, but that isn't a part of the pretrip for a single trailer combo vehicle. at least not in my state. spring and service checks from within the cab. listening for governor cut-in and cut-out tells me by ear when the sole trailer's reserve is at operating pressure right? plus the gauge in the cab.

I believe this is a perfect example of an instance where the secure cab licencing board should be asked for proper , legal guidelines and the secure cab regulations consulted for further explanation. I shall write a proposal for funding that we can present to our democratic senators and congress men and women to put an end to the terrible lack of proper guidelines in this very serious problem.

The OP. It's because it is easier for 45,000lbs to push the truck and get the most RPMs in the shortest amount of space.

Is this part of you in-cab air brake endorsement test?
I recall having to put it in LO gear to simulate chocking the wheels for the Applied and Static Air Brake Tests and also for the various tug tests.

The lowest gear will provide the most resistance to movement of the truck should the wheel chock and parking brakes fail.
