OP I worked customer service before. Truck driving, at least doing OTR with refrigerated and dry van freight, is nothing like working in customer service (whether we're talking about retail, the restaurant industry, or wherever). It's night and day. Don't listen to the other commenters on this thread who tell you otherwise. Trucking is not a customer service job.
Trust me, 95% of the time you are alone with just you and your thoughts. Yes at the warehouses you have to interact with people and sometimes they can be in a bad mood. It happens. But your interactions with them are usually very brief.
And best of all, while you should certainly do your best to always be respectful and nice to people even if their having a bad day, you don't have to kiss their ### and apologize over the trivial things that people complain about in customer service types of jobs. None of that.
If you're looking for solitude, you'll find it doing OTR with refrigerated and dry van freight. Probably more so than what you might even be comfortable with it.
I can imagine with tanker jobs/flatbed/LTL linehaul it's probably the same, I can't imagine much interaction with most of those jobs either.
Good luck. Chinatown can probably help you out with companies depending on what sector of the trucking industry you're interested in.

Every application to a trucking company has to be approved by their insurance company and the insurance company won't approve anyone that admits to using pot or anything else or admits to walking away from a company rather than take a drug test.
Some people screw up with simple questions.
"Have you had a car wreck within the last 3 years?"
"No, but I had one 4 years ago."
The applicant volunteered information that wasn't asked for.stillwurkin, BUMBACLADWAR, austinmike and 1 other person Thank this. -
A woman on here had failed a non-DOT drug test for some company she worked for.
Now she wanted to become a trucker and insisted she's 100% honest and just has to tell the world of trucking about that. We warned her because that incident has nothing to do with trucking. She insisted that she's totally an honest person and doesn't think that will be a problem because God will take care of her.
She's still unemployed because she just couldn't keep from running her mouth when being interviewed by a trucking company for cdl training.Gypsy88, BUMBACLADWAR, bryan21384 and 3 others Thank this. -
