Knuckledragger,
This is the truck requirements I received from my recruiter:
Truck requirements:
· Age limit of truck is 10 years or newer
· Needs to be equipped with an ECM (electronic control module to hook-up a qual-comm)
· Sliding 5[SUP]th[/SUP] wheel is required, no wiggle room allowed
· Tractor weight fully fueled should be 20,500 lbs or less
· Wheel base 260 inches or less (exceptions can be made on a reviewed, individual basis)
· Tractor will be DOT inspected the first day of orientation. Make sure brakes are adjusted, no holes in the exhaust system, lights work, reflectors are in place, tires are legal, check for oil/fluid leaks, no cracks in windshield, no wiggle room in 5[SUP]th[/SUP] wheel. Remove decals and lettering before the truck inspection. If our mechanics remove decals/lettering it will cost a minimum of $62. Mechanics charge by time and materials, so cost varies.knuckledragger and w.h.o Thank this. -
Did they give you anything in writing before you signed on? I'm a big fan of having things in writing to back up anything verbal. From my days as a General Contractor, commonly referred to as 'CYA'. haha

Thanks for clearing that up. I've read here and there on this board about a 'West Coast IC Choice' program starting up for tankers as well. Welcome to the land of misinformation i guess. I'm definitely going to call the number Drifter provided and go from there. Thanks again

EXACTLY what I'm looking for! THANK YOU!
If you start this program with a truck that is 10 years or newer - then after a couple of years of running this program your truck 'ages' beyond the 10 years, does Schneider require you to buy a newer truck at that point?
Did Schneider provide you with any literature for this program? Do you know if there is a place online you can go read the details of this program? I'm going to call the number 'Drifter' provided (as soon as I can sit on hold on the phone in the middle of the day while at work.) In the meantime, it would be great to find written information somewhere.
Thanks again for your help -
Jarhead has a 06 truck I doubt they would make him get a new one. Also beside that truck spec it saying you need atleast 3 months driving experience also valid cdl. Are you planning on joining schneider?
-
no they do not require you to buy a new truck .. There are lots of trucks in the SNI system over 10 yrs old as I said I spoke with a guy who had just on boarded a 1996 or so Pete ..knuckledragger Thanks this.

Miracle of miracles! I actually got ahold of someone at the number Drifter provided. (During my lunch break) The last few times i called I got put on eternal hold and eventually had to hang up because I was at work.
Interesting that when I asked for written information about the IC Choice Program that I was told that I would have to apply first. They will not send you any information in advance of an application??
Does anyone here still have the written information Schneider sent you after you applied? Can you share it with me? -
For those of you looking for information on 'IC Choice' (besides the excellent driver threads provided here,) go to:
http://schneiderjobs.com/owner-operators
Part of the problem I was having was using the wrong search terms. I was searching for 'IC Choice' and finding nothing on Schneider's website. Turns out that 'Owner/Operator' is what you want to search under. -
Thanks for this. I've been toying with the idea of going choice at some point (the freedom aspect really appeals to me). However, the 10 year old or newer requirement pretty much eliminates cabovers as an option.
