Well, I would also had gotten a rental car in an attempt to fend for myself but unfortunately, this is how things went down:
As of 3:30 pm (thats 15:30 for those who still think that theyre in the military), I was informed that I will be getting my truck fixed and could get back on the road by the following Monday. It was Friday evening when all this was happening (Friday is the day that falls just before a weekend). About 4:45 pm (again, this would be 16:45for those still wearing your insignias), I got a phone call which lasted about 20 minutes. The phone call was regarding my getting suspended without pay until whenever.
OK by now here I am sitting in a small Pennsylvania town where the nearest car rental agency is 10 minutes away. The next one after that is about 20 minutes away all the way up to an hour and a half. The nearest ones are all closed by 5m (17:00 hours) and will be closed for the entire weekend because I am guessing that theres not a whole lot of tourists standing in line to see what Bedford, PA has to offer.
Further car rentals do not offer anything from state to state while others stated that in order to get something that rents from state to state, I would have better luck going to an International Airport. I know, several people may be able to find an airport a lot closer to Bedford but then again, these are county airports, not international.
Now, due to the fact that I might have to go to an airport to get a rental car for several hundred dollars which will take me two days to get back home or, I could get a one way ticket for a little over $100 and be home that same day.
Yes, the company tried throwing me under a bus but unfortunately, in order for me to land under a bus I would have had to be thrown about 75 miles to even get near one of these bus routes. As great as Crete/Shaffer seems to be for those who fair well with these companies, perhaps it is just a matter of time before blowing your own horn runs out of air!
I wasnt offered a rental car I was offered a com-check number to find a place somewhere along my ventures to cash this check on the weekend and then offered the suggestion of taking a bus along with a Good Luck and let us know how you make out in the long run as to say... "keep in touch."

OK so I get a call from Deland telling me that safety has cleared me of any wrong doing and I am to go ahead and pick up a rental car at the Orlando airport. The car is scheduled to be picked up at 9:am on the 14th and I would arrive in New Kingstown on the 15th to drop the rental car off that afternoon at the Harrisburg airport. I decided to go ahead and pick up my belongings in Oxford, PA along the way. With about 6 hours of sleep I manage to get my stuff packed in the car (trunk, back and passengers seats full) and make it to New Kingstown by 10:am on the 15th. I go inside to pick up the permit book for a brand new truck (07) w/477 miles on it. Dispatch tells me that I am late - I was supposed to be in New Kingstown the afternoon of the 14th. I try to explain things to them but instead I get this glassy over eye look as if they have more important things to do which is why communication is so bad no one cares to listen.
I get my stuff into the new truck, drop off the rental car by 2
m on the 15th. I get a cab back to the terminal - all paid for by the company. On the 16th I finally get situated into the truck and contact dispatch letting them know that I am ready for a load.
Dispatch says that they are not allowed to dispatch me because I havent been cleared by safety. Again, I explain the facts to dispatch and they finally get me a load from New Kingstown to Fredericksburg, VA - a whole whopping 160 miles. I waited from the 15th to the 17th to get a 160 mile load. Before my other truck broke down I got 900 miles for that week. I will be calling Deland first thing Monday morning with two alternatives, they can either give me decent miles as in 2800 plus miles per week consistently or give me my last load going back into the Deland terminal where I will drop off their brand new crappy Freightliner once and for all! -
Good luck man. I wish you all the best. 160 miles to me is like telling me to walk.

I just don't know why you went back to shifty Shaffer in the first place.
They have already demonstrated that they are no more then just another OTR company who pukes on their driver employees because they can.
You hear how this OTR company or that one is so good to work for but the truth is, that none of them are good, just some worse then others.
The individuals ability to submit to their abuse and put up with it seems to be much of what defines a good report on a OTR company and a bad one.
If you get to know some people who work for these large OTR outfits in their offices you can deduce, like I have, that the average OTR company cares about the individual driver about as much as a Chinese mining company cares about their miners. -
You have to keep in mind too, what time of year it is. This time of year isn't the best time to be moving on. I am also looking to leave this worthless company, but I want to wait until freight picks up some, if that is going to happen with the economy in the shape it's in right now. Plus New Kingstown area has lost a bunch of freight. Hershey has moved a bunch of it's production south-of-the-border (and I don't mean with Pedro in SC) Things should be looking up for the drivers that stick it out at Shaffer. Since they have moved the OPs into Lincoln and did away with 1-on-1 dispatch, I figure a good number of the long term drivers will bail.

You're partially correct...you can also have the crosses out of phase,or "time" if you've slid the spline apart, and put it back together a spline or two off. Most of em have a "blind" spline, that will only go together one way to prevent this, but not all..

Unfortunately, Blue is correct. Wish it weren't this way, but just about all the trucking companies are less than desirable to work for. At least the non-union, OTR outfits. There's a new site being advertised at this site, a site devoted to "good" trucking jobs. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes for a good list to evolve there, and what criteria they'll use to definine "good".
I won't be getting my license back anytime soon, nor will I toot outfits like Crete anymore. There are too many people coming here saying Crete, Roehl, or Shaeffer sucks to keep being these outfits' cheerleader. This ol' boy doesn't polish turds. -
So let's all turn in our CDL's right now since there is no one good to work for. Alot of it has to do with personal attitude. I have worked for some bad non-trucking employers but did my job to my best and things went well for me. Too many on here want everything handed to them on a silver platter. They want everything they can get without giving any more than they have to. They want to make as much money as possible but hold it against the companies for wanting to make any money. That is what is wrong with our nation today. Everyone is looking out for themselves rather than doing their part to make things better.
-
Let's do it. Turn in our CDLs, that is. It worked for me. It worked for my uncle. When I dumped my CDL my life improved by a leap. Of course, I DID just get my college degree, so maybe that helped a bit? A degree I worked my ### off to get without any sugar-titty help from the government.
Sure, some quit because the sky gets cloudy. But when thousands quit a company each year, can you say most of those guys are the ones at fault? Nope.
Place the blame where it's due.
Oh, yeah, Paw-Paw, I want to say that idea of yours about the fuel flow on governed rigs has to be the dumbest idea I've seen posted here in a while. Who told you a governed rig moving along at 65 uses the same fuel as a rig barreling at 75? Man, THINK before you stick your foot in your mouth.
