Trucking is a tough trade that isn't for everyone, it has a high attrition rate, and the scary way some of these new guys drive, the industry can't keep enough good people out there. I live near Houston and I have never seen such reckless driving, by class As and civilians. Nuts out here my auto insurance is sky high just because of my zip code.

We have a lot of DOT here in Ohio. I see them out all the time. Same thing happened to my dad 25 years ago, with having to drop the trailer and bob tail to get money to pay the fine.

He got it at the Carlock scales, I forgot about them. If going west jump off at the Mitsubishi exit and take that road behind the scales. I think it is 150.

I first saw this done at the scrap yard. When I used to take metal from the welding shop I used to work at for scrap. What would happen is guys in pick up trucks and vans could scale on the scale no problem, but guys who had 24' box trucks and stuff could fit on the scale so they would do it just like you said they would weight the front axles first and then weight the back axles second and that would get them there weight.

I remembered back in 1980, I was running with another driver, he had faster truck than me and my CB radio wouldn't get out far. Anyway's, he pulled away from me, when I saw Smokey pass me by, I try to reach him via CB(no cell phones back then), he never heard me. So few miles later, Smokey and the other driver where on side of the road. Yep, citation for speeding, He paid it on the spot. $35.00 if I'm not mistaken. This was in Montana.

The Carlock scales are close to 50 miles from Champaign. There are 4 truckstops.with CAT scales. There is no excuse to pass that many scales that heavy and not weigh.

How did he know he was 79000 lbs. They had a scale and didn't let him check his axle weights? It doesn't take long to check steers drives then tandems.

Gotta love the OP keeps ignoring the post that mention that there are no scale house close to Champaign , Il.

The blue dots show the weigh stations around Champaign.

Oh. Look at that. 3 CAT scales close to Champaign and 1 in Champaign.

That is 100% drivers fault and his company should NOT have to reimburse him the fine. He was lazy and didn't scale a heavy load and got busted and he had to pay. Maybe next time he will properly scale out his load.
