Some people double clutch and some float the gears. I have 2 questions here.

    1. What would happen if you shifted a tractor like you would a normal standard transmission.

    2. What do most of you drivers on this site do, double clutch or float.

    Thanks !

    1. Wears out the clutch brake and most likely grind every time. You need to give it a little time for the RPM's to drop a bit for the next higher gear. Ever notice that the higher gears like it when you upshift a bit slower?

    2. I double-clutch 99% of the time. It keeps me busy. :p

Mostly double clutch otherwise I'll use the clutch to get it out of gear then float it into gear.

before i started my new job, i did a lesson with a driving instructor, just to refamiliarizse myself with gear shifting (it had been a while and i didn't want to look like a complete loser). the only time i used the clutch with him was to take off and stop. floating all the way up and down. turns out the trucks at my new company are either autos or synchronised manuals.

I float 'em. Haven't double clutched since my road test for current company 10 years ago. Well maybe a couple times since to see if I could remember the touch.

The last time I double clutched was over 25 years ago on the road test for my license. I've put about 9.5 K on this truck w/o a doubleclutch.

    Learn to float.

    Skydivedavec and dennisroc Thank this.

Double clutch when I have a student but float when I'm alone. Floating to me is the better way to shift, easier on the truck and me.
