Feelin ya brother
Felt something coming on in ND on fri night.
By the time I got home late sun night felt like warmed over death.
Figured I picked up the flu so layed low till wed.
Wasn't improving so I did the doctor thing.
They said flu so got a prescription and went to bed.
Next afternoon was feeling worse so went to a local clinic and he tells me I've got pneumonia, and it's gonna be 5 days meds and rest.
Hope to return to work thurs or fri.
Boss not pleased but ya gotta take care of yourself first..here's to feeling better and getting back on the road.6wheeler Thanks this. -
Just an FYI, you do know that if you are sick and get inspected, the officer who is doing the inspection will ask you a bunch of questions and could decide to put you OOS without any recourse. He may also tell you to go somewhere to get help.
I have had to deal with this not just once, but a few times, one driver was pulled over by the Oklahoma state police because he was not driving the truck all that well and he was seriously sick, they had called an ambulance and had the truck towed - it wasn't cheap.
He thought he could make it home but it didn't happen that way. The doc said if he stopped and took a couple days off even at a truck stop, got plenty of fluids and eat anything - even though it went through him - he would have been fine but he pushed himself like an idiot (yes I called him that to his face when I saw him in the hospital) and thought it was more important to move the truck towards home than it was to rest. Yes he is still driving for me, and yes he got sick again but listened to the advice of the doc.
I've been sick on the road a bunch of times, and only once I attempted to try to get home, I was 30 miles from my house when I gave up and had my wife come out to get me. -
I'll go for my DOT renewal next week after the meds have run their course and won't volunteer any info to them about my illness let alone a creeper cop.
If you are physically unable to operate safely that's one thing, but I'm sure we've all run when we feel awful. -
yeah I get that but here is the thing about the cop, if he thinks your are sick, he will ask and if he doesn't like your answer, he has the right to put you out of service for at least 10 hours. You won't have a choice so honest answers are sometimes the best.
AND there are too many drivers out on the road who think they can handle being sick and driving, there can be a numbness to it when you are pushing yourself and a few have caused serious accidents because of it. Judgement is impaired being sick, no way around that, your focus is fuzzy and this is without medication. -
Awwww! Hope you feel better soon!!!!!

Brings back painful memories of having my first real bad OTR cold.
All I wanted to do was go home, even though that was 800 miles away. Made me really hate with a passion people that could just call in sick from their desk jobs and be home in 30 minutes.
Here's what's really scary, I didn't have a thermometer or any medicine in my truck so I don't know how hot I was, but at some point it occurred to me I could die in my bunk and not be found for days. (Happened to a guy in Haggerstown, cops/paramedics had to pull the body out of the sleeper. It was not an easy process.)
So I dragged myself into the truckstop laundry room and faded in an out there for a few hours. Hung over the sink a few times, if you know what I mean, and figured, "if I pass out someone will find me a lot quicker than in my truck."
I remember crossing the lot at one point questioning god, "why don't I just fall down now? If I fall someone will take me to the hospital, why can't I just let myself fall down?" Yeah, it was that kinda moment.
Luckily within 48 hours I was feeling better but that one night was so rough it still haunts me to this day.
