Crete makes most of their new drivers get tested. The owner's brother owns a company that makes cpap machines or something related.

This company ran CPAP stuff is a scam. Half of the time they wrongfully diagnose OSA. Come one, you really think a chiropractor is medically qualified to diagnose and treat OSA? That’s like me asking my personal trainer to do my taxes

BMI of 34 with an 18 inch neck might get you flagged for sleep apnea testing, but it might not. I had a 40 BMI and 24 inch neck and was not required to test. This might be because I am much heavier than I look because I am 5'8" with a very long torso and wide shoulders. I was watched for weight gain though, and put on six month medical certificate renewals. Eventually I got irritated with the six month checkups and made the stupid mistake of voluntarily offering to take a test because I absolutely do not have sleep apnea, and that is clear because of the fact that I only need 4 or 5 hours of sleep to be fully rested, have zero tiredness issues, do not snore, and, in general, have no symptoms of sleep deprivation issues at all.

None of that mattered. Every time I have been tested, they claim I failed the test. They cannot explain why it is that I have absolutely no symptoms of sleep deprivation. They got a fat guy to take their test, saw an opportunity to sell me a machine, and failed me.

I suspect that at nearly 60, the chances are pretty good they would flag you for testing.

Only allow them to test you if the alternative is being fired. Way too many drivers get forced into CPAP machines just because quacktastic doctors need to make a payment on their new boat.

I got my medical certificate. No sleep test. If a company insists I get a sleep test, even though I have my medical certificate, I'll probably just walk and find a different company. Trying to play me on something like that I think gives me a clue they got other stupid BS in mind to try and screw me. So, might as well save myself the bother and walk right away.

    Aamcotrans and Farmerbob1 Thank this.
  6. most of the big box companies play that game for the most part.
if you would have company where you can get your physical where you wanting you go to like AFC or a regular place anytime Concentra on your own it's a whole different game it seems...
what do you want these big box carriers there's a lot more times people fail when they're regular place they go to if it's not their Doctor who certified or a place that you just choose and you pay for it yourself.
that's why you hear people that have gone to like AFC American family Care in the Southeast got their physical perfectly fine and then I'll said they go to say crete or werner and then they fail after they just passed one that's. certified a week before.
this is the long-running scam with a lot of these companies they give them a big kick back and this is the kind of stuff that you see people that are perfectly fine that have to get tested for no reason at all..
that along with all the stupid agility
    test that aren't even required.
you going to lift stuff carried around and all kinds of other nonsense.
that's not mandatory in the FMS CA..there's no regulation that says You must be able to lift up so many pounds
regular small companies don't operate like that just your big box company still because they're afraid of the insurance.
so many times if you happen to be a big person and you know your BMI is a little heavy and you're going to work for one of these big mega carriers the doctors they use but not just the doctors that use the rules they use are totally different..
there is some stuff going on under the table and people are totally oblivious and blind if they don't know it.

I just went to local walk-in clinic that also does CDL physicals. I needed to get it before I could take my CPL. So, I have my medical certificate and my CPL (to include tanker and doubles/triples). Gonna do the Hazmat when I get the chance. Right now, life threw me a minor interruption and I am in the process of moving to a different State. Since different companies hire out of different states, gonna wait till I get to my new State (Arizona) before I decide which company I am going for. I have thought about Swift and talked with them. But, I think I want to try CFI. They weren't hiring in Florida where I live at this time, at least that is what they told me, so when I get to AZ perhaps that might be an option again. If not, I'll see what my options are and get going. Only other minor glitch is I figure my CPL from Florida won't transfer between states like a regular license, So I expect I'll have to take the tests over again. Only a minor inconvenience I think. I don't see why my medical certificate won't still be usable, so don't expect I'll have to get a new medical certificate.

  8. all depends on the company is so you could have one done 5 minutes ago walk into a company that says not we use our own you have to pass our physical that's how the big box companies work..
at the time and 2010 when I left landstar I had just had my physical one month prior when I decided as recession still showing no signs of improving, to just get rid of my trucks so I didn't want to do it no more and being owner operator. and went back into the company driver Force.
I did a six-month stint with Crete big mistake second time around before I came here to my current employer for 9 years almost. but I had to go down to Concentra there where they made you go in Lincoln mind you my physical is only less than a week old..
so one thing you do when you look at it companies if you're worried if you're not worried you don't have nothing to worry about but if you are borderline and you passed physicals but it's been kind of tight ask that was my current physical good nine times out of ten the big box companies will say no you will have to get a new physical through us... but a lot of these foreign outfits and small outfits They Don't really Care I'm just letting you know though like let's say you just got certified cool let's say you wanted to go work since you're down in Florida let's say Davis out of Starke..they'll just basically tell you throw that physical out you're going to take one from our doctor that's how the big box companies work you see??

Thanks you the info. I'm not really 'worried' about anything. Just seems to me that any company that does such things is running a scam right out in the open. If you are required to have a DOT accepted valid medical certificate, and you have it, it isn't their place to say it isn't good enough. Anyway, I'll cross that bridge if and when I come to it, although my instinct is as I said before, if they want to screw with me on something like that it implies they are probably going to have other BS that is, well.. BS. But, it is what it is. I'll just weigh my options and go from there. I am moving back to a place where I lived for many years and I've only been away for one year. Perhaps I'll go to my doctor, who has been my doctor for fifteen years and knows my medical history better than any other medical professional and get a medical certificate from her (she does issue them). Then if they try to give me crap about it, I have a ###### valid pushback. IDK. It's seems it's always one thing or the other in the trucking industry.

Avoid Schneider, they are the worst

  11. now the only thing is going to happen in the end is they're going to tell you go work somewhere else..if you get it from your own doctor it doesn't mean a hill of beans weather there certified or not like I said these big box mega carriers the majority of them make you take a physical at their doctor.. just letting you know since you're kind of new to the things there but that's one of the tricks of the mega carriers
