Not sure who loads and tarps our loads out of Ottawa, but they need to learn how. The belly tarp for the load I picked up yesterday was just sorta loosely draped up there with half the ropes not tied.(it's a royal PITA to retie the belly tarp once the main tarp is in place.). The back flap was all bunched up and you could see the back of the glass. It took me over an hour to rework their part of the tiedown then secure my part of the tiedown. Now, I am waiting on my ACI to be approved. I sent it to our afterhours yesterday and had my ACI by 1700, but the brokers PARS check still shows 'not found'...I was hoping to hang with Canada loads until Thanksgiving, then tell them to shove them up their wazoo before Wylie starts doing our border paperwork...but I may no last that long.

I am about to tell my dispatcher to take me off the Canada runs immediately. I was gonna wait until after Thanksgiving before ending my Canadian runs but this last trip has me hating the thought of ever dealing with U.S. Customs again. This half-tard in Champlain got pissed because I didn't complete a 7553 form for an empty trailer. No other border crossing has ever required that form for an empty...not even the one at the Detroit/Ambassador bridge, which is known for their quality of egotistical ########.
On top of that, my ELD took a crap, so now I am on paper until I get back to Church Hill. Until now, I didn't have issues with elogs, but these ELD pieces of crap have me contemplating taking my last paycheck and filing bankruptcy, then getting out of trucking completelyBumper and Itsbrokeagain Thank this. -

Based on the scuttlebutt, the reason for the abrupt merger with Wylie was because Moore was on the verge of having to ask Daseke for more money just for payroll. Not sure how true that is, but they were getting mighty tight with layover pay right before the merger was announced, so it might be a distinct possibility.

This is one of the reasons that I refuse to go to Canada anymore. Border BS. broker BS, random 3 hour lines at the border, idiotic traffic leaving Toronto, Montreal construction detours through the city, signs conveniently only in French, etc. (Champlain is known for requiring that form no matter what randomly once every 2 years for no reason at all.) I'm surprised that they didn't get you earlier.
That and the fact that Maverick sent me on 10+ loads in a row to Toronto/Montreal. All without a transponder on my truck. Yet I ran into several drivers who said they hadn't gone to Canada all year and had a transponder to get in and out of Canada. Btw, if you don't have a transponder you can't go through every crossing (Erie for one) and end up being sent through the X-ray everytime also since you have to go inside to pay cash to cross the border anyway they just double your trouble instead of sending another driver through the line for the X-ray. So I always spent at minimum 30 extra minutes crossing the border. We get 40 dollars to go to Canada. I heard that they changed it to 50 but it's not worth it for less than 200 IMO. I get 200 to go to NYC and I'd volunteer to do that 3 times a week vs going to Canada. I just drive at night if I need to go to NY.
Driving we make 35+ dollars an hour. (Actually 40+) Why go through a bunch of BS, using your own passport, just to get paid less than your own hourly driving wage? That's why I refuse to go. My passport is worth more than a reduction in pay.
I'll go to Canada for no less than 200 dollars.
Maverick sends me to Laurinburg or Wichita Falls to wait 2-3 days for loads sometimes. There is nothing like layover pay. There is breakdown pay though (haha). Those weeks I get the minimum 1000 pay but I could have made 1800 if I was being taken care of like some other drivers are.
Imo you might want to check out Maverick but first check out Combined or Daily Express. They both pull glass. Drivers seem to be happier than the inexperienced Maverick drivers.

I rarely use to exit in Champlain, I would usually opt for 1000 islands or Niagra Falls, but I was short on my daily hours and also on my last day in Canada without putting a 24 hr on the logbook, so it was Champlain or sit in Canada for a day.
I appreciate the advice about other glass haulers, but my love of hauling glass is rapidly coming to a close, it's just to narrow of a freight base to be consistently busy. In fact, based on how bad my wrist has been aching, I believe my open deck career is also coming to a close as well. So, whether I like it or not, I will most likely be seeing a big box following my truck for the rest of my driving life.Bumper Thanks this. -
