Thank you. Yes, I've backed wrecker into tight spaces daily. The flatbed tow trucks when I had a car on the rear lift, and then back in was a pita compared to a 53' trailer as the car trails quick. I hope it works out. If not, trash companies hire a lot here in Boston. As for the girl, she wants to live in the truck. She's working on her master's degree in psychology. Plus we need a break from the small town we live in
So I think I'm going with Werner

I go into both constantly. Easy peasy when you're from here. As a matter of fact, I gotta go to both southie and Chinatown today

I worked on a dollar account with Werner for for months.. Here's my take.
Werner is probably the worst company that you could possibly work for. They are currently over the CSA threshold and you will be pulled in the scale houses for inspection frequently. And, even with EZ Pass, you will NEVER bypass a scale. You will be issued a truck that has problems right out of the gate. Something small will take a day of your time to get repaired. The way the dollar accounts work, this could, and will, cost you a 30-50% pay cut for that week. So, now you see the cycle? Driver has bills to pay, needs to keep running, DOT is nit picking every truck they see, CSA continues to rise. Your license will get popped with CSA violations, even if you do the best you can do to keep the truck right. It's gonna happen! Eventually, Werner will issue you another truck that they swear is good to go. Then the process begins again. New truck, different problems.
Now to the dollar account. The stores try to keep payroll to a minimum, so they can be short on the unload crew, not to mention that you may have to wait while they rearrange the store room, take out the trash, and etc. Then they complain the whole time because distribution sent something that they don't need. They don't want to be there, and certainly don't want to be dealing with a weeks inventory all at once.
Your unload schedule will be set so that, with e logs, you are forced to sleep at the store for a 6 am unload. But in the cities, many of the stores won't let you park till 9 pm or so. Oops. But you have to go on duty at 6am? Really, you begin getting your rollers set up at 5:30 am. Hmmm. And there are times when your last unload of the day will be at 8 or 9 pm. You went on duty at 6 am, right? So, assuming you make it to your last stop, you are stuck there for the night. By this time, you will be dirtier than the worst flatbedder, nowhere to shower, or eat most of the time.
Back to sleeping at the store. Most inner city locations are a pretty bad place. Can you say ghetto? I have never been to a truck stop where I was REALLY concerned for my safety, and the safety of my truck and load. You will be trying to sleep in areas that many won't drive thru in broad daylight. And just remember, the paperwork says don't stay overnight at the store, but HOS says you have to, and they will tell you in orientation that you have to. Now when you have a problem, some wino pops the seal on your trailer, it's on you. Can you say incident on your DAC?
So, after a period of time, you have done the best you can with what you have, but you have finally come to realize that the headache is not worth the mediocre pay, and you want to move on. But before you quit, find a job first. because it will not be easy since you are a new driver with multiple dings on your DAC and CSA. No moving violations or accidents, and most potential employers won't even ask for an explanation. On paper, you are a walking disaster. They just simply deny your application.
You have been warned!rachi and Toomanybikes Thank this. -

In the past, sometimes still in the present, I have worked under conditions in which the people, both the customers and the people you work with, are outright rude and insulting. It can and does cause your blood pressure to elevate, along with ulcers and other health problems to occur.
I would NEVER wish for any person to go through stuff like that.
God bless you and your family! God bless the U.S.A.!Last edited: Jun 9, 2015

I hear y'all. I do. It works both ways. I travel light for starters. I will protect my license at all costs. It would have been nice if some of these other recruiters gave me more than 5 minutes and 45cpm repeatedly on the phone. Alas, Werner was the only one who took the time with me. TMC wanted me to marry my girl just for her to be a rider. Nice trucks, but you don't get to tell me how to live my personal life just to drive a shiny pete. Oh, and I'm 8 miles east of 95 and it would be harder to get me home blah blah blah. I was like guy.. I'm 15 miles from downtown Boston, I have 2 Wal-Mart's, two home depot, and one Lowe's 10 minutes from me. So, Werner it is for now. If I don't like it, or the do the jerky bs the wrecker companies did to me.. I bring their truck back to terminal and thank them for their time.
