Really depends on what you listen to or want to learn. Accoustic is probably the cheapest and most practical one to get. You don't need to lug around an amp to get the full sound. Gibson makes some pretty cheap entry level accoustics.

I prefer electric. You can get a cheap cheap cheap Fender Squire Strat pack for probably $180 or less. It will include a cheap small 10 watt amp and everything you need to get started. The guitar itself is pretty solid (it is what I use).

I started with rhythm guitar by learning super easy songs that use four or five different powerchords (Green Day & Linkin' Park songs). The best way to get a jump start is to go here: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/

They have tabs on hundreds of thousands of songs. Think of what you love to listen to and sounds easy to learn, and then look up the tabs. Another good sources I've used is YouTube. Just look up the song title followed with "how to play". They got tons of instructional videos on there that will show you step by step.

The best place to get a guitar is an actual music/guitar store. They got really good starter packs there. Stay away from the $99 "First Act" Walmart kit. With guitars you get what you pay for. Guitar stores are usually REALLY good about steering you in the right direction if they know you are just starting out. You should not spend more than $200 on a decent kit. Stick with Fender for electric, or a cheap Gibson for acoustic.

I would highly recommend Rocksmith. It is available for PC, PS3, and XBox 360. Probably the most comprehensive and in depth guitar lessons you will ever get. Plus you get a crap load of good songs to play along to. Look them up on wikipedia or youtube. If you do lean towards an acoustic guitar, make sure it has a pick-up to plug it into an amp.

yea i was going to buy from a guitar store if anything. I might get electric, always liked it better, and one day get an accoustic as well. I need to buy a new xbox first as mine got the red ring

Bahaha!!! Mine too! May 22, 2011. One of the saddest days of my life.

Get a cheap Fender. I got one with a Humbucker pick-up and a Vox amp. Cost me near $280, but it has all the heavy distortion sounds I want for playing along with Nirvana or Linkin Park. All equipment was used. Best #### investment I've made.

When I'm not at work I drive a lot since my fiance and I live on opposite sides of Pennsylvania. My EZ-Pass account has $3370 charged to it since July of 2011. We are both Catholic so we did the pre-canna over the last two weekends and I have decided the tolls are less painful than sitting through that..lol..

I went to the Catholic high school where it was held and one of the "holy rollers" from a couple years ahead of me was the one doing the big talk on no pre-marital sex..lol.. I suppose I did take a few things away from it but I had to laugh when I saw he was a presenter. He didn't care for me much when I was in school there ..lol..

    Drac1985 Thanks this.
