Surf, (at Rincon or Huntington Beach), BBQ, (total favorite as long as Margaritas are involved) or ride my quads or Suzuki RM 250 at Johnson Valley or Hodge Road..(High Desert/off I-15). Or..if all else fails...go to Las Vegas and visit my money..

That would be nice....bought a smoker last year and STILL HAVE NOT FIGURED IT OUT...Adjust this, adjust that, airflow this and that...Bought a pellet smoker from Costco and still can't get the #### thing to do what they said it would. Fortunately, I still have 2 "traditional" BBQ's..And how the heck do you "adjust this, adjust that, airflow this, airflow that" when you have a serious buzz on ? Isn't that the point of a good BBQ ?...####, I'm lost..

I'm just using a 22.5 kettle cooking offset with some hickory chunks today. It's cold up here today and the wind is a little erratic so holding temp has been a little tough.

My best advice would be to get a good digital thermometer and mount the probe about an inch off the cooking grate. I always leave the top vent wide open and adjust heat with the bottom. I was having trouble too with temp when I first started doing this so I ran it a few times with no meat just to see what I was running. I also keep plenty of water in the pans and have some chunks of brick on the charcoal grate to hold and maintain heat.

The best thing ever is a good digital probe thermometer. I have a Maverick I picked up for $20 bucks at the local bbq shop. It even has a transmitter that I have next to me in my living room to monitor temperature. Stock thermometers are junk.

I am a geocacher. If you aren't familiar with it, it basically is a high-tech treasure hunt. You either use a GPS or a smartphone app to try to find hidden caches (or containers) that are hidden all over the place (usually near roadside attractions or public places of interests such as museums or libraries). If you find a container, there is usually always a log and you sign it with your callsign and date. It is played by about 12 million people on all seven continents. Chances are there is a cache hidden right about two or three blocks away from you if you live in a moderate size town. It gives me something to do since a lot of truckstops have caches as well that are trucker friendly.

Yup. It is also played in Australia as well. Look it up on Wikipedia or Google it. There is a site called geotruckers that is dedicated to truckers. I am positive I am not the only cacher on this forum.

Hmmmm. We have a beach house we spend a lot of time at but we have to rent it out as a vacation rental to be able to afford it, so now a alot of our time is spent cleaning and maintenance. Dabble in knifemaking, wood carving and fishing but need to find more time for things as they have seemed to go by the wayside lately.
