The guy has OCD. LOL if he's worried about his batteries running down due to her plugging in her accessories, and the truck is basically running like a team operation, I see no possibility for ill effects on the batteries. These newer trucks have failsafe attributes that shuts down all nonessential functions when the batteries reach a certain low threshold, and you'll still be able to start the engine.
As a matter of conflict resolution, I would probably hide the inverter until bedtime, plug it in while that guy is driving, charge my stuff. He would never be the wiser, the truck would never know the difference. The ultimate object of the game is to get trained enough to pass Swift's road test and get that solo truck and go out and make money. Typically it's a common story we get of acehole mentors on power trips who cannot successfully run their lease truck as a solo operation. Right away you should recognize there is something wrong with this guy lol Even if their heart is in it 100% altruistically, again this is atypical and there is something wrong with that guy but in a good way.
Some questions about my mentor

I don't trust nobody, when a student first come on my truck the first 4-5 days I take naps, after somedays of taking and seeing how he operate then I decide if I'm comfortable with him on the truck or not.
I watch americas most wanted, csi and lifetime. Lolbluebonn Thanks this. -
I can't seem to get this out of my head so I asked the lawyer of the family about it. She said there are many factors but there would be a case. A very blurry line. Would take right judge or jury and right state. Seeing how infraction could cover many states you could pick the best state for your case. The HOS rules are written in stone. A driver must have 10 hour break in either line 1 or 2 to be ready for a 14 hour shift. Minus 8/2 split. How they spend that time is up to them. Any student work like trip planning QC work. Backing ect should be logged properly on line 3or4. A student would have to keep accurate recprds of all infraction to these rules and not break any of these on there own. the plugging in of inverters, laptop use phone ect are allowed to be used on your break. It is your time. If a student is kicked off truck fired ect there is cause. To get lost wages until new truck is found. A student could bring action against company driver or LO OO. They would or better have deep pockets and no real interest in a career in trucking. If suit brought against swift good luck. Asking for student record or other info to help your case is needed especially for witnesss or proving a pattern. But if swift says no prepare for battle. If there is any other factors like ethinic background, sexual preference, gender are all important. She said discrimation, unproper firing could all be reasons. Bluebonns first post explaining his practices and second post defending himself proves a pattern and in some cases liable. She said you could bring a suit against swift but nothing good will come it. She explained swift this way. If your baby is sleeping on you and startles awake. Most times you can not say anything and the baby will go back to sleep. No problem. If the baby stays awake and starts crying. Big problem. She is not saying to sue or giving advice. She is just saying under the right circumstances a mentor could be in court paying for lost wages, pain and suffering, loss of job ectfrom the driver. The drivers work for swift as mentors, they are paid for there services during and after training. Swift has rules that the mentors have to follow. Any deviation from those rules releases swift from lawsuits and leaves it on the drivers. Once again big dog carries a big stick. She has no first hand knowledge of mentor contracts training ect on swift. Just her opinion from what I told her and what my mentor told me about it. He was a mentor with swift for 6 years. Didn't think you could get sued for training but apparently you could.

I got assigned a new one yesterday. Currently im still on the bus going back to dallas until my new mentor comes in. This will be my first female mentor, and it sounds like from the get go it should be better. She sounds like a person who is willing to work with someone to help gain an understanding. Im excited how much better it sounds already.

OMG you guys are a bunch of cry babies not truckers! You take what I said and totally turn it the wrong way. I treat all of my students good. Every student on my truck I have paid over $100 for a CB for them and have paid for things like dinner. duffel bags and so on.
What they do on the 10 hour break is their business except when it interferes with there training the next day. No wonder the industry is the way it is today!! -
She's with a female now this should be interesting. Anyways I do not have time to chat with you yuppies any longer. My student and I have a long load with plenty of time so we are going to go relax in the mountains in a hotel with a sauna and a massage then it's off to L.A with a stop on Freemont street in NV. Can taste that Lobster and Oysters right now.
HEY NOW! Ima such a bad bad mentor!Last edited: Nov 18, 2011
