Intermodal have a substantial steel frame around the tank. Nothing protrudes below the unit.

I can only recall a handful of times over the last five years where pulling forward to fill the reefer wasn’t possible because of the other trucks… One remedy I use is every time I get fuel for the truck, I get fuel for the reefer… So if this does happen I can just get it at the next fuel stop
The company I work for now has 100 gallon fuel tanks on the reefer ..... so it’s not an issue if I don’t fill it when I get fuel... I can go all week if I want LOLFarmerbob1 Thanks this. -
I've seen a couple of spread-axle reefers that did the opposite - the tank was mounted much further back, closer to the front axle than the landing gear. They had big tanks, and were probably mounted that way to take advantage of the weight bonus you get running a spread.

So I guess you all have no clue as to why some officers check the color of the fuel in your tractor tanks?
