There's less and less of the old iron left every year. It doesn't just wear out, but also gets wrecked or sat in a field for decades to rot. I'm just happy to drive somebody else's truck and not worry about fuel costs or any of that. Just speaking from experience with the 3406e that it's not great on fuel. Though that could be that I was always driving local and doing local work with 98,000 lbs on my back.

That he can probably rebuild with his eyes closed for a pittance compared to a new one should he ever need to?

Somebody somewhere sure has a bunch of that crap. When I parked Friday there was 5 skids of it near my dock door bound for north of the border.

I mean if I didn't own my truck and couldn't give 2 ####s about fuel mileage it probably wouldn't do 3.5mpg. As it is I do around 5.5 to 6.

Give me a 60 series, N14, C15, or 3406 any day, all day over these newer engines. They may not be the most economical, but they are reliable and simple to work on.

Not surprised at all. Every #### weekend the roads are jammed packed, plenty of thirsty trucks and SUVs hauling boats and RVs, kayaks and bikes strapped to car roofs etc. No way that is essential travel for work or school.

2022 is the first full summer post- lockdown and nobody is staying home. High gas prices?. You wouldn't think so with the amount of people burning it for fun.

That money you thought you saved by getting that extra mile per gallon just evaporated when you were broke down because of some faulty sensor or sitting on the side of the road waiting for a regen.
