Put the next spare in the bunk and leave the wife un-locked in the spare tire cage ...... ?spectacle13, truckon and mountaingote Thank this.

Get a good, out door rated, lock. Then spray the crap out of it with Fluid Film, Red Undercoat, Jig-A-Lube, whatever ( NOT WD40 ) THEN wrap it with duct tape. Hasn't failed for me and I run 500 miles north of Maine !

That's a bummer. I don't know how I would react if I caught someone stealing something from my truck-- anything. It's not even about the part but more of principle type of thing.
spectacle13 and blessedman Thank this. -
Coat the bottom of tire, full of heavy grease..when thief steels tire...evidence everywhere he goes.
-
Doubt he'd be getting any Christmas cards from the tire service guy afterwards
-
In leu of Chrisrtmas cards, when no one was looking, there'd probably be a bunch of new pock marks on the rim from the pry bar !!
-
I would just get some cheap 3/8ths wire rope from the hardware store and wrap around the tire and tire carrier and use some crosby clips to clamp it together. The thief will have to use a ratchet and time to get it loose, by that time it draws attention and he has to explain what he is doing and it creates witnesses so when you do the police report they can give description etc. Most thieves would just move on to an easier target.

I had my spare tire stollen from the loves at St Joseph MO.
